Lovely lovely lovely!!! What a fantastic glaze, very mesmerizing and colored unlike any other I've seen before... my sweeties are soaking in a steaming hot bath on my stovetop as we speak... begging to be used ASAP!

Now if only my Castleton Moonlight would arrive today!

I always soak my hagi overnight at room temperature. I believe (which may be erroneous) that this allows water to seep into any pores and push out any residual dust or odors. Then before use, I always fill it with hot water and let it sit for a few minutes before use. I think it slows down the staining in the cracks, and lets the patina develop more gradually.

I've read more than one version of how to prep Hagi... from overnight soaking to short boil to long boil. I did a slow simmer of my previous pieces until I could no longer see air bubbles escaping from them. I don't presoak every time I use them, because I rather like the patina/crackle and am in no hurry to detract from that process... it has been a fairly gradual change even without taking pains to presoak.

I've had a package that said- left osaka, but was not checked any where else,
and boom that afternoon it shows up.
My east coast experience with Japan EMS is 3 or 4 days.
(But you need to sign in person.)
I've received SAl in 6 days!!
And I've had even more expensive shipping, from the US, take 7+ days

If you go SAL insure it to be safe.

I got home to find a note saying that I either need to arrange for redelivery or I need to go to to postoffice to pick my package up.

Problem is they left the section about what post office the package is actually at... blank.

Bummer Hooksie, hopefully it will not take 3-4 business days to drive past the front of your house (sooooo close) and another 3-4 days for you to get it into your house. That is agonizing!!!

My USPS tracking has said for almost 48 hours "We have received notice that the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece." Obviously they are quoting the Japanese text from EMS tracking ... Unless this was snagged by customs, I still think it will arrive Friday.

We should all share tracking #'s and watch the Yankee clipper race bringing Hagi to America ...

Still no update, with each passing hour of its non arrival in NYC, the chances of its delivery tomorrow grow slimmer and slimmer.

You know EMS comes on Saturdays too...and they used to gave Sunday delivery but not any more.
