Hello my name is D. Michael Coffee from Pagosa Springs, Colorado USA.

I am an Architect, Ceramist and Printmaker now living in the beautiful San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. My wife (Denise) and I relocated here after 30 years of living and working in Los Angeles.

For my ceramics I work with various high fire stoneware and porcelain clay bodies that I fire in my custom build gas reduction kiln. My glaze palette consists of various Shinos, Tenmokus, Celadons, Nukas, Chuns and Ash reduction fired glazes.

I'm interested in variation of form and surface, striving to not repeat myself. I'm primarily interested in nonlinear paths of development in the objects I make. The common thread that stitches my work together is an overriding desire to be surprised by the outcome, as though I wasn’t present during the process.

Thanks for this opportunity to introduce myself. I look forward to learning much from the TeaChat community.

i like your first pics. they look great.

i am so happy to see such a close neighbor here in Colorado and have them posting here too. as i am new to this tea ware thing i look forward to seeing more and hope to some day make it down to see what i can if you have a studio.

i too am looking for shape and other ideas and bet you will find plenty here. everyone here has such good ideas and suggestions that they give freely. just be careful you might wind up with too many non linear paths and need a brake from all the Maelstrom of ideas.

However, they are all soooo beautiful.

Chip and I have discussed your philosophy and I agree..being a floral designer I feel the same way and enjoy the serendipity, freedom to do my own thing creatively, not really knowing how the flowers will dance in the vase. :wink:
