i have found thru viewing many chawan in the museums in japan, china. there is a kind of `formula` for the koudai
usually, the best proportion is a koudai width, half the diameter of the bowl itself.
try it. i dont think of this but unconsciously, my chawan appear to have this same koudai (footring) proportion.

My current collection of Chris' work increased yesterday to 3 ...
I really like the way these feel in my hand with the carved facets and overall shape. I think I like the shorter height versus the taller, just feels better overall also preferring the slight flare to the lip of this cup.
And on its way ... will make 4 ...
My first was a gift from Chris ... a little heavier overall and the carved facets are not as pronounced, possibly due to the addition of high gloss glaze? The glaze is beautiful, full of depth, the run adds a lot of visual interest.

A couple came out of a regular cone 10 firing, but have already been claimed. Perhaps pics of them may pop up here in the future? I have about 5 or 6 more going into a soda firing this weekend and will post pics as soon as I can. Thanks for checking in on them!

Want to get a quick one out today...Ok, so not a tea specific, per se, but would have looked nice on a tea table.
Then on the ride home from the studio, the box fell off the train seat. I saw this when it was unwrapped the next morning:
It's too bad, was a pretty nice one...Guess I'll just have to make more. Pics of new yunomi soon.

Here is a piece that I threw, faceted, trimmed and my friend Lester decorated with black underglaze. It then got a clear glaze over the top. We did two, one for each of us to keep. Photo from yesterday's tea session -- Den's Shincha Houryoku. Now drinking Rishi organic spring sprout out of it. Both teas from a gracious TeaChater.

I received this yunomi in the mail from Chris. As with all complex glazes, it can be very difficult to capture the play of light and color. This yunomi has an amazingly deep glaze, with beautiful rust and iron markings like (I think) a good orange shino should have. The lip has a stunning metallic gold and rainbow sheen that also shows up faintly on the chamfering.
Very complex, very beautiful.
Chris, you need to learn to handle that camera! Your work is lovely, and it's very hard to see that in your photos. Heck MY photos don't do justice to your glaze. You're a real artist.
These three photos were all processed differently to highlight the glaze in different ways.
I'm not satisfied with the last one, though I shot and reshot. I'm pleased with how it highlights the color and depth of the shino, but I was especially trying to show here the quality of the gold and rainbow metallic shine on the lip. I suspect that natural light will not allow it to be captured properly (at least at my skill level,) and I would need studio lighting. It really is quite stunning.
When I unwrapped this yunomi, I actually said out loud "Oh!" because the image I had seen beforehand showed very little of the lovely detail of the actual piece. (No offense, Chris!
)

Nice pictures and narrative to get us into this piece. The sequence is also nice: close, closer, closest. I agree that there are objects too visually complex for a full rendering by camera.
