They are so beautiful; I am hoping that others have some to share with us. They just exude tranquility and definately put one in the mood for moar tea.

I hear ya 'bout where to hang it! We live in an old stone farmhouse w/stone walls, horsehair plaster and very low ceilings.

That said, we are having fun deciding the perfect location(s)!

The current scroll in the tokonoma of my washitsu heya (Japanese style room) here in NH. The scrolls get changed frequently as the mood fits. The youhen kabin (vase) there is by MATSUMIYA Ryouji, kamamoto of Kanayamayaki.

Today was "changing of the scroll and pot" day in the tokonoma of the washitsu heya. The kabin is a youhen piece by MATSUMIYA Ryouji, kamamoto of Kanayamayaki. (The sword is my Iaido katana.)

Whoa I've got to get a scroll like that too.. It woudl be fun to do one yourself too, maybe a basic enso circle or something

I have seen "blank" scrolls availble to paint yourself.... but only in Japan. I'd guess someone must sell them on the net.... but I've never looked.

These scrolls look nice and I have been thinking about getting one. I am for the most part clueless about these. Can anyone help me with what the price ranges are, most likely on the low-mid end since I am just a lowly graduate student. I imagine the high end scrolls can go for prices that would bankrupt most. Also, where the best places in general to get them are, any online stores or is going to a Chinatown the best?

The best deals may actually be found on ebay. Just take a look around. Sometimes they go high and sometimes low. Now might be a bad time depending if scrolls are looked for as Christmas gifts. Just watch the material, if it is silk or paper, and pay attention to the seller and their rating. I bought a beautiful scroll for my office, I think it was under $20. But admittedly I got lucky.
