new pics of matcha chawans
Hi all,
here's some more detailed pics of matcha chawans...
.
I think the oxblood has some beautiful color variations and reacts very differently that the shino on the first matcha chawan. Glazes that have a higher percentage of clays in them (as in my first example) tend to have the ash sit on top of them more where as the other glazes ( such as my second example) will react with the ash being a flux and making the glaze run. (teachers!! don't they ever stop??? Probably be a quiz later in the week ) Then you get to consider where in the the kiln to put that piece so the glaze doesn't run right off the piece onto the shelf!! So many variables to work with which is what makes wood firing so challenging and fun/exciting.
Enjoy the pics. Bill

Pic of Art Park
Hi all,
Thank you for all your encourgement and kind words. Also, Clareandromeda, here's an ariel view of the Stone Quarry Hill Art Park. I couldn't send it with the convo.
The Pottery Fair is in the barns you see and the "raku your own" is in the kiln shed that you can just see below the barn on the right just behind/to the right of the pine tree on the right.
Cheers, Bill

Pottery Fair and...
Hi all,
Glad you like the pics of the Art Park Clareandromeda. Beautiful isn't it?! It is a well run show with stuff for everyone. There is a claytown where you can make something for yourself, it's self hardening clay though, not for tea bowls or such. And of course pottery!!! I believe there's 75 artists this year. Lots of styles. I hope you can talk your boyfriend into going. I've seen my wife pulling that technique on me too. That's alright, even though I know what she's doing I still go along with most stuff. She's a good sport for me in return, makes a relationship work.
Cheers,

If the photos have failed to capture your imagination, I captured a short video review of some custom work Bill helped me out with.
