I for one wouldn't mind having the chat window be there while I'm reading through the threads. One of the first casualties of this new layout is the static chat window and given how much I have to scroll, it's very quickly out of sight.
That sounds good. The blank column on the right would nicely house that bothersome banner at the top

Agreed. All the 'bigness' definitely detracts from the 'business.' On the bright side, I can actually read what I'm typing without my glasses and with only a couple hours' sleep. Unfortunately, it will be a pain in the neck to try to find this post in the forum haystack later.

The static banner does interfere with something else besides the text. Many images in posts now are too large to fit in the window and I have to scroll to see the whole image. That's a loss. Yes, I can hit the F11 key to make browser window full screen. But the fixed banner really needs go.

I am thinking this orange needs to go. It is not pleasing on either my home or work monitors. Can't we used the shaded green as on the side panel and still use the orange buttons?

I like the orange, but then again orange is one of my fave colors! I may be one of the few that likes the brightness. :? However, green is kool too!
Whatever for me as long as we still have TC!

Don't most OS allow users to set display preferences to override website font size/color and background settings?

Each tab on my browser shows the same background color (a restful dark turquoise, with dark blue (active, selectable text) or black lettering (box, regular text). I use white/gold for headers.

I employ this approach to force uniformity among disparate webpage sources, to keep page content immediately identifiable and simplified.

No flashing anything. Adagio's banner is a pleasant orange. No monitor resolution nor text tweeking needed.

Using my color scheme, visual discontinuity between old and new forum appearance was minimized - still appeared to be 'familiar', despite the layout changes.

I discovered the miracle of "F11" today, which also helps w/ the banner problem -- I'm sure it's nothing new to most people.

As an additional bonus, on Firefox, the top stuff will slide away after a few moments, leaving the screen even more dedicated to the web stuff (it'll reappear if you move your mouse up there, rather like hiding the windows task bar). Just hit F11 to go back.

And I discovered the miracle of Color Toggle - a nifty little add-on that
changes the page colors. Just beautiful with a black background and easily toggles back to reality. Cool!

Good change!

by JP » Jul 29th, '09, 13:00

Just noticed that the static banner now scrolls away, leaving us much more usable screen space. Thanks!

Now, if we can just get rid of that blank space that it left behind...

I'm getting a huge blank area between the banner and the forum window now. Does anyone know if I can make it go away?

I think Ilya is still working on it.
