I just post some new yunomis .






these is all shinos but ...different ones . Under the shino are also different kind of glazes or "engobes" ( slips we say in english I think).

Here in Ohio (USA) both terms are used. It can be quite confusing.

Awesome work Ginkgo!

So nuanced..... almost as if the colored slips are floating in and out of clouds of glaze. (see below) I love the irridescence of the black one as well.

Where in Switerland are you? Many years ago I spend a week at a youth hostel high up in the alps at a little village called Gimmelwald which was directly across the vallery from Mt Eiger. It was late spring with wildflowers everywhere and the mountains floating in and out of clouds....... an amazing place!

I am living near Geneva's lake, near Montreux . Aigle is a little town not far from the lake and not far from the mountains too. (But I will move soon just next to Aigle in a litlle village ). I travell a lot by train and visit cities and also other parts of Switzerland but there are many places I never went ... so the place you mentioned above.

Some news from the last kiln. I make some experiments around "carbure de silicium " (what Lucie Rie was using ) in a white glaze . It makes these little flakes. For the first one here I put a shino over this glaze .

The memories that you stir in me!

Back in 1966, when I was studying O Level Pottery at school, the Pottery Master suggested that the 4 best potters in his opinion were

1. Shoji Hamada
2. Bernard Leach
3= Hans Koper and Lucie Rie

Mmn, my mind drifts back

He actually brought a vase by Hamada, a Cider Jar by Leach and 2 small white bowls by Lucie Rie in for us to marvel at.

For Koper he did not own any, but referred us to Coventry Cathedral to marvel at the candlesticks.

I have to confess that vase by Hamada seemd the most magical to me.
