Black Tea for Chai

by Chatsworth » Dec 3rd, '09, 15:56

Wondered what the preferred black tea is for making Chai. I know that the spices added are powerful so I don't know how much of a difference it will make but do want to know. The only loose black I have now is an Earl Grey so I'll buy some other black based on your recommendations.

Something like Ceylon would make a nice base

A lot of chai mixes have CTC (crush-tear-curl) Assam tea in them.

It looks like this:

You can buy it pretty cheap here:

yeah, I would say ceylon too, it has a slightly smokey taste and isn't too full on if you don't brew it for too long, so the spices will definitely come through.
