Source for Tea Tins
Anyone have a good source for some inexpensive tea tins? I would like to find some that not only seal well but would stack. Probably those that hold either 50 or 100 g (2 or 4 oz) would be great.

Upton has a variety of tins:

I don't have an answer for you but funny thing...
It was "free dented tin day" at the Jteas yesterday. He was giving away tins he had that were dented. Still totally functional. I had to look to find the dent in mine. Maybe he has a bunch he would sell you inexpensively?

These seal well, are really cheap by the case, and hold around 50 grams of Sencha. A good size. And yes, they stack pretty well.

Also try taooftea.com. They have the small double-lid tins for $3/each in coppertone and black. Very nice. I mostly use these, and they stack pretty well.

Michael's Craft Store has a selection of tins and glass jars that are ideal for short term tea storage.

If you want cheap tins, there are plenty of suggestions in older threads. See:

Specialty Bottle is pretty cheap.
That said, not wanting to spend more on the thing you're storing your tea in than the tea itself is short-sighted, because the tea will be consumed, but you can reuse most containers. If you're drinking tea which goes bad quickly, you should invest in containers that will keep the tea fresh longer. Also, cheap containers often have off smells that are sometimes not easily removed.
Using good quality resealable pouches / bags, or investing in some of those things which you clip over foil tea storage bags might be one way to go... I would do this over using a cheap tin.

Re: Source for Tea Tins
As my tea shelf got more and more crowded, I started to look for stackable tins that would make the best use of space, but now I appreciate that the heavy duty bags the tea comes in are easier to crowd in, and naturally take up less space as the tea is used.wyardley wrote:Using good quality resealable pouches / bags

Thanks all for posting the links. I bought one of the Ryu Me tins for my son at Christmas, shipping was very quick. They have a large selection and some attractive designs. Those double-lid tins at Tao of Tea look nice, and great price, I may grab a few of those!
Re: Source for Tea Tins
I bought a bunch from paper street teas. They're $1.50 with $5 for shipping, but if you use coupon code TEAGURU I think you can get 20% off. I ordered a bunch and they ended up being about $1.70 per tin. They've been working well so far. About 2.5 inch diameter and 6 inches tall.
Re: Source for Tea Tins
On the topic of tea tins, for those who have the japanese paper covered tins, how are they affected by water? do they have some sort of sealant over/on the paper to keep it from getting wet? just wondering about cleaning and/or accidental water spill/splash.

Washi paper is pretty tough stuff generally. But I am sure it would stain ... but there are some that are more resistant than others.
