For Chinese New Year, a friend visited in the afternoon for tea. We started with a side-by-side of two Oriental Beauties from The Tea Gallery's recent trip.

In the 3rd cup I did a few fast brews of first flush Darjeeling for a comparison.

We also drank 2 Lao Cong Shui Xian (2003 and 2008). Both good but neither really hit the spot, so I added a high fire 90s LCSX to the mix. (far left)

Speaking of Rou Gui, I like the "natural" cassia that one can impart. But I have read that some vendors or otherwise have added either cinnamon or similar in order to "artificially" create this in the profile.

Is this a common practice that one should be looking for? I have had Rou Gui that impressed me, yet now I wonder if I was duped?

Oh, drinking some Li Shan from "someone's grandmother."

I recall a while ago that i swapped some Japanese greens for some Taiwanese oolongs, including a Li Shan from my grandmother. Is this the tea in question? How is it? Coincidentally, I'm drinking this exact same tea now, but from my second bag.

Heh, yeah Maitre_Tea. I had a small amount of "A" sample left. Very nice green oolong. Thanks for the swap.

I wish I could be more helpful but this is the first rou gui I have ever had so I can't really compare its quality to anywhere else's. This rou gui is from dragonteahouse on ebay and I do enjoy it a lot. This spring Im hopeing to try jingteashops rou gui so I can compare the two.

First time in years since I had Fenghuang Shui Xian ... in fact it was this same one that has been sitting around since 2005 waiting for another chance. It was quite a bit better than I remember it, on steep number 7 and it seems to be getting better with each steep.

Amazingly, this was from H&S ... they do occasionally offer a pretty good oolong.

I'm having what was once one of the best oolongs I ever tasted. It is from Jing Tea Shop from the Anxi Tasting set. It is a TGY from Long Juan. Still this is a great TGY. I have about 30g left, I have been saving.
