Korean hydrangea tea aka Gamro

Visited Chasaengwon, a Korean Tea store here in LA, this afternoon. Several posts here and then some reading elsewhere piqued my curiosity, and I made a stop there today. Because I was taking some green tea home, when offered a sample cup of tea I went with the hydrangea. Two rather large leaves in one near-boiling pint of water and a few minutes later, I had an amazingly sweet, and lightly spicy and fruity cup of tea.

Now, a couple of hours later, the cold remainders are still quite tasty, and even sweeter. The price is pretty high, but just two leaves made a lot of delightful liquor, and probably they could be resteeped if desired.

Hankook has them too. Might want to check the prices. :mrgreen:

Chasaengwon is the storefront name for Hankook.

It's a great store. I really want to try the Hydrangea but it's pretty pricey if I don't like it. How did you manage to leave without teaware?

That is where I got it, from Hankook aka Chasaengwon. And I did not manage to leave without teaware, but the teaware is still wet from being washed before I put it away. Pics to come.

I forgot, I do have a sample of their Hydrangea Tea, maybe a Sunday tasting :idea:

The Hopi tea mentioned a few posts down is not available for distribution yet - so thank you for mentioning this, as I've never heard of it and it sounds lovely. I'll get my new tea fix yet!

Waking up this topic as I'm again enjoying a lovely cup of gamro tea: mostly gamro leaf, with a bit of mace, cinnamon, saffron, and galangal (should never run out of ginger, dumb me). Even without the ginger, it's very nice. The gamro gives the whole thing enough body that it doesn't taste like spiced cider or mulled wine minus the cider or wine.

It's going down very nicely on a night when I'm determined to crash early, and really don't want caffeine.
