A hidden gem.

by rabbit » Apr 17th, '10, 10:53

There used to be this seedy italian resturant in an industrial section of town, it was a known hangout for the mob, in an ugly square brick building... noone ever went there. Recently it sold to a russian guy and he named the places "Tea Crepes House". I couldn't help but go inside!

... Well, despite the run down outward appearance, the inside was extremely clean, very modern and trendy, with low black leather couches and tables, dim lighting and samovars (and trendy foreign music!). A russian girl seemed surprised (almost scared) to see some new people (who don't speak russian)... she gestured that we could sit anywhere we wanted, my friend and I sat down and received two menus, one with over 100 teas (mighty leaf bagged teas, and very high quality loose leaf teas) and one of crepes.

My friend got glass brewed longjing and I got the da hong pao (I was very happy to see it on the menu being as I've been wanting to try it!). I ordered a small crepe and to my surprise when they brought it out, there were two small "crepes" no bigger than your thumb!... I was a little disappointed... until she brought out my actual crepes, these were just some fig pastries to hold us over until the food got there *whew*... the crepes were awesome, the tea was awesome, the (inside) of the building was awesome!

I couldn't be more happy to have found this little hidden gem, I will def. be returning with my friends.

Thanks for sharing! That sounds cool. I wish I had a place near me with a tea menu!

Wow, you're really lucky!! NYC has a couple of places like that in Chinatown, but nothing with such an extensive range of teas. There need to be more tea houses in general... :)

Neat. What's it called? I googled "West Springfield MA tea house" but didn't get much.
