More Holes

I did find a tiny hole cutter yesterday and commenced with OCD hole making. I now have a few prototype teapots and have decided to stop for the time being. This because I need to see how this form pours. I also have another concern. I am thinking (especially with the porcelain) that cracking and warping between holes in the strainer is a danger. We shall see. Meanwhile I leave you with a couple images of my latest child--this one is stoneware and is yet too moist to fire.

Ah Victoria--such synchronicity! While you were posting about square holes my friend who loaned me her hole cutter was bubbling on about the wonderfulness of her square hole cutter. :?:

Well I wouldn't stress too much over the holes, I doubt most people would be looking to expressly brew Japanese greens in them. As long as it holds back the bulk of the leaves thats fine, there are always strainers.

I am really looking forward to the finished work. These are so sweet!

LP, sorry I neglected to comment on the more holes from your latest photos ... and smaller holes too. This is much better, IMHO. I think more and smaller holes would be helpful for most greens, not just Japanese ... and blacks too. Sans strainers ... and would make the pot more useful for a wider variety of teas including oolong as well. :mrgreen:

It is great to be able to share suggestions with the artisans. Better yet, they listen! The interaction is awesome. :idea:

Chip, No sorry necessary. As always I am slow to post and am still back on your offer to do lots of testing on the prototype. . . :lol:

Good morning TeaChat reader,
I pulled this trio from the kiln yesterday. All are stoneware and they are now biscuit. Do they pour instead of gurgle? They pour! Though I like the performance of the one on the right best. This group will be glaze fired in the gas kiln within the next two weeks.

Oh I love these little pots. I love how the spout looks like a long snout coming off of that amazing textured body... I keep thinking of Sonic the Hedge-Hog. One of these little pets surely needs a good home in KY.

Thanks Geek, Victoria and Sarah!

Size wise: the tea pot belly begins at about 5 inches in diameter. After the glaze fire the belly is around 4 inches in diameter and the pot holds about 250 cc.

About them hedge hogs and the cuteness factor. . .I am having a time of it wrestling with the impulse to put eyes on that snout of a spout!
