Type what's in the quotes...

""

Remember... If you exceed the size limit built into the forum it will give you an error message saying the pic is too big. In that case you will have to use a site such as photobucket to resize the image.

Cheers,
Mike

Well, I tried that from where it saved on my computer. I've also tried cropping it, and compressing it does it have to be on a website?

Ya... Pretty sure it has to be a URL.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, the image needs to be somewhere online, rather than saved on your hard drive.

You can use imageshack.us for free online image hosting.

Around 500 pixels wide ... or less.

You also mention compressing, you actually will be resizing.

Also, it is possible to download a photo as an attachment versus using a photo hosting site. I prefer the latter for several reasons.

I crop over half of my pictures. But not to get them to the right size.
You crop to center the main subject or to eliminate distractions in the background. (It makes the pic. a little smaller but thats not the intent.)

Compressing is like Zipping a text file, And you'll almost never need that.

The Resize button is something you will use almost ever time you upload a pic.

Yeah, forget about compressing. This is why you were also unable to post an avatar. You needed to resize, not compress ... thus your file remained too large for the avatar (file size restrictions on the forum for avatars) even though the size appeared smaller.

For future reference when you want to change avatars ...
