2010?
So has anyone bought anything from 2010 yet? Usually everyone is raving about some Dayi Recipe cake right now. The 7542 is overpriced this year but the 8582 seems quite reasonable, has anyone tried it yet?
Re: 2010?
I've bought a couple items, but I actually haven't had a chance to try them yet....
I haven't purchased any 2010 Dayi, though, as I already have a good quantity of earlier years.
I was surprised that the PuerhShop hasn't unleashed 10 recipes this year..... yet?

Re: 2010?
I haven't tried any Dayi either.
I have, however, tried a few things from YS.
2010 "Gua Feng Zhai" YS label cake

This stuff was exceptional. It's not as harsh as it could be (to my disappointment) but the flavors here are amazing. Lapsang Souchong came to mind when I was sampling this.
2010 Guan Zi Zai "Early Spring Mengsong"

Harsh, bitter, vegetal, left my mouth tingling. Lots of energy, lots of flavor.

Me too, I rather liked many of Jim's 2009 offerings.Drax wrote: I was surprised that the PuerhShop hasn't unleashed 10 recipes this year..... yet?
Re: 2010?
I think that Dayi has tried to increase profitability by creating top of the line cakes which probably haven't been as successful as they would like. So why not push up the margin on the best selling cakes like 7542 and the 7262? Well part of the reason they were so successful is that they were very good cakes for a reasonable price. Dayi is trying to market puerh for the 21st century. However if we refuse to pay the higher prices they will back off a little...I think.

I hope so, Dayi seems to leading the push for more money.puerhking wrote: However if we refuse to pay the higher prices they will back off a little...I think.
And I think they made that decision before the financial crash.
Once the bigwigs decide to make more money. It's hard to get them to
face reality. Low sales or no sales should help wake them up.
* constructive criticism, I hope

Dayi can only control prices within the primary market.
The high prices that you see in 2010 are also a result of secondary market trading activities and the actions of speculators acquiring dark pools of liquidity as they seek to exploit the situation by depriving the market of stock and driving prices higher, in this case due to the massive 2010 drought (which affected the supply of maocha) coupled with the global economic recovery.
The well known speculator Victor Niederhoffer, in "The Speculator as Hero" describes speculation:
"Let's consider some of the principles that explain the causes of shortages and surpluses and the role of speculators. When a harvest is too small to satisfy consumption at its normal rate, speculators come in, hoping to profit from the scarcity by buying. Their purchases raise the price, thereby checking consumption so that the smaller supply will last longer. Producers encouraged by the high price further lessen the shortage by growing or importing to reduce the shortage. On the other side, when the price is higher than the speculators think the facts warrant, they sell. This reduces prices, encouraging consumption and exports and helping to reduce the surplus."

Yeah, the prices seems to just be a result of Menghai experimenting seeing what they can get. Why sell for $10 when you can get $20? I really hope 2010 cakes come out being decent cause I have some money saved up and looking to stock up, I just need to find out what the "good stuff" is.
Re: 2010?
7542 001 is indeed a hot shot. Some shops even had it sold out. We just openned my Dayi shop in Beijing but can not get 7542 001 to sell. Only managed to get 002 right now.
Re: 2010?
Speaking of 2010, Nada's cakes are coming soon! I hope. Anyone else planning on buying a few?
Also I've been looking at the 2010 YS label cakes as well, some of them look tasty. However, they are all 250g cakes instead of the usual 357-400g. I wonder if this is because of the drought?
