Wu Yi question

by Sententia » Jul 23rd, '10, 12:41

Wu Yi ensemble from Adagio has become my favorite Oolong. I was curious if their are similar tea's with that dark, oriental flavor to them. Maybe like Oolong#8 from Adagio if any of you have tried it.. but just with that distinctness to it. Any suggestions or input would be very much appreciated.

I'm not sure what kind of Wuyi that one is but if you like Wuyi then I'd recommend trying Jingteashop or Hou de.

The 2009 Spring Zhen-Yen Handcrafted Shui Xian from Hou de is excellent for the money.

Their Oolong #8 is a darker, roasty oolong similar to Wuyi. Leaves are broken up a bit much for my taste, but the flavor is going to be fairly similar. I say give it a try - for me, it's a nice, cheaper tea that I can drink regularly instead of feeling like I have to have a special occasion.

So far I've only used Hou De for my Wuyi except for a recent small order from Cloudwalker. Although it was good, I'll stick with Hou De for my Wuyi. I haven't tried this type from Jing Tea Shop, but have been very happy with their better-quality green teas.

I second the jingteashop suggestion. Ive never had a bad wuyi from them and the price is very reasonable.

Another place to check out is Sevencups. They have quite a variety of Yancha which to me seemed to be pretty good. I'm pretty new to Wuyi though, so my palate isn't very developed yet.
