Tea Hygiene

Postby Naughtysnakey » Jul 27th, '10, 18:10

Hi All,

I am trying to find out whether there is a substantiated health risk to using loose tea bags in an office environment. Is there evidence that germs are spread when people grab a tea bag out of the jar?

My guess is that the risk is minimal. Any germs would be killed by the boiling water?

I'm hoping for something tangible, a published study or website that I can reference.

Thanks Heaps.

From what I understand it takes 15 minutes of constant boiling water to really kill 99% of germs. But I don't think it's a huge deal to use teabags out of a community pot. Probably not the best thing in the world but not the worst. I'd suggest you bring you own teabags though. If you use loose leaf I'd buy the cheap $3 box of teabags to put your tea in and then take those to work with you. :)
