Wood Fired Ceramics by Bill Perrine (Split-Fire Pottery)

Hi everyone.
I wanted to touch base with you guys. I have been getting ready for the Annual Pottery Fair that we have in Cazenovia, NY. Show dates are August 21-22 and stop out if you are in the area. I chair the new wood-fired raku department and have been getting everything ready for that, kiln shed overhaul and wood for the kiln during the fair... busy busy. We have a glaze your own raku for a nominal fee. You get a bisqued piece to glaze yourself and then you get to watch it be fired and reduced. Really cool and with the volume we do it makes a bit of money for the guild.
Also, if I may, make a shameless plug for my etsy site. I am now having a 15% sale on everything until next wednesday the 18th. Then I will empty the shop and take it all to the show on the 21st and 22nd. Then I will reactivate what I haven't sold at the show. I also lowered some prices on top of the 15% off, so if there was something you liked but didn't quite want to pull the trigger on, this might be a good time.

Back from a very busy couple of months. I wanted to share some pictures from the show with you. The new wood-fired raku kiln that worked great!

Here is a kyusu that I wish I kept... It went way too quick.

This is the new claybody I created for the back of the kiln with a white glaze liner that fit well.

Hi all,
I also wanted to post a pic of the view I saw yesterday when I was coming out of the workshop, where I'm building us an entertainment center out of cherry from the property that I had rough sawn two years ago. Shows the kiln nestled in the hill surrounded by "needs to be cut" grass!



Then I took this picture later in the day, the sun was going down a bit and the trees at the edge of the yard framed in the sunlight hills nicely.

Glad you find it entertaining!! It has been the "center" of my attention lately!
I can't wait to start throwing again... the holiday season will be here before we know it! I enjoy "composing" those teapots. They are like little sculptures. A balance of components. I really liked that orange/white shino one with the perfect ash deposits... I was hoping it wouldn't sell.

Speaking of entertaining things being the center of my attention here's the entertainment center I just finished building for the living room. Mary Ann said she will varnish it if I build it (I do need to take off the diagonal brace that's on there once we get it inside...)

Hi everyone,
Been busy throwing and splitting wood (and back to teaching). I'm making teabowls, teapots, mugs and all the usual fair. I'll have some pictures soon. I miss the summer break, my second one off in my life. I ran a construction business 26+ years during summer break and then some. Not working 12-14 hour days is something I could get used to. I am so looking forward to potting full time when I retire from teaching.

Hi all,
I finally have the entertainment system done and in the livingroom. Yeah!! I also have been throwing a lot and will share pics with you as I post them on flickr. Here is the entertainment system:



Nice to have that done. Not that I didn't enjoy the project, I like woodworking, I just wanted to get going on my next throwing cycle. Mary Ann finished it with 3 coats, and it is starting to show signs on darkening already. Eventually it will match the fireplace wood which is 3 years old now. The sunlight ages cherry and darkens it to a nice patina of sorts. I included some of the details from the fireplace mantle in the entertainment center. Rectangles of wood near the top corners... stuff like that. I used rectangles of wood on the window trim too ( Craftsman style ). The cherry picks up on the stone colors nicely. That's not real stone either! Not too bad for fake, a lot lighter too to install too. I did a decent amount of stone and brick work for customers before, and now it pays off as "practice" for building my own home.

Hi everyone,
I can't believe how busy it's been. Teaching with a new student teacher, taking care of my elderly fathers needs, other family stuff, getting ready for and setting up a two month long, local show called Art Mart and potting.
I finally have another kiln full, all glazed and ready to be wadded and put in the kiln. I'll fire this Saturday. It will be fairly nice out too! I'll take lots of pictures before, during and after.
