So, I finally did prelim tastings for each of the 5 offerings. I am quite impressed! I feel each is quite drinkable despite being young sheng.

I hope everyone likes them as well.

Im very curious to try these! really my first foray into pu at all besides some unknown small chunk i was given in a generic tea store a while back. I do find it somewhat amusing that we speak about young sheng as being drinkable in spite of itself cant wait to check for myself

I will be quite interested to try these.

I am now tasting my first of the older pu samples I received today from Essence of Tea, and I am not loving it yet as I do my young shengs and shus.

OK, Pu-OTTI is all boxed and ready to roll Friday. Put it off a few days due to the record 100* heat wave.

These OTTI is all in boxes, though had to improv a bit awaiting a box order. This took too many hours to package, thanks to the Mrs. for her help.

You know, the UPS guy came to my door on Friday, and I wasn't expecting a package.

And even though it didn't make the least bit of sense that 1) the pu'erh samples could have arrived that quickly, and that 2) they were coming by UPS (I figure USPS)... for the briefest of moments, I thought maybe they had come!

Of course, it turns out the delivery guy had the wrong apartment. *sulk*

And... woo hoo! Happy 1000!

I am thinking of breaking the norm and asking the both vendors involved in this Pu-OTTI to post their recommendations on brewing. Both are members of TeaChat and have sat quietly on the sidelines as we discussed this OTTI, well, not exactly as they have both been in contact with me pretty many times ... and seem as excited about this OTTI as we are.

I will also post what I am doing, inexperienced in young sheng though I am.

So, I invite Nada from EssenceofTea and TIM from TheMandarinsTeaRoom to share recommendations for brewing their Pu-OTTI teas based on the amount of leaf included!

Here is a quote from TIM directed to recipients of this OTTI for his two selections, Yiwu and Nannuo.

No Problem Chip. Here is the brewing parameter for both of my puerh:

Brewing Parameters:
Vessel size: 100ml - 200ml
Tea quantity: *Minimum 1/3 Vol. of vessel capacity
Water Temperate: Fish-eye boil - 212 degrees F

Brewing Time:
Flash rinse: Pour the heated water over the tea leaves until covered. Quickly pour out the water and allow the now rinsed leaves to sit for 60 sec.

*(All brews must use fish-eye boil)
1st steep- 1s
2nd steep- 5s
3rd steep- 20s
Rest 10 mins
4th steep- 20s
5th steep- 60s

Notes: It is very important to take the time to smell the inside of a dry cup after each brew (Specially the first 3). Put your nose into the cup and breath in normally for 30 sec after finishing each cup. The dried heat smell of tea could let you fully understand its characteristic. There is no reason to rush, it is not a competition and enjoy the tea moment!

Wow, that was really fast!

And per Nada who concurs also with TIM.

I'd probably suggest 4-5g/100-120ml gaiwan/yixing, beginning with 5 sec infusions and increasing as necessary. This would give everyone 2 brewings at the tea. A little more leaf would be fine though with quick infusions.

Yay, glad to hear packages are arriving so quickly!

Just to mention again, there are 9 grams of each of the 3 teas from EoT and 12 grams of each of the 2 teas from MTR.
