Cost of Yunnan Gold

by F7 » Sep 14th, '10, 08:35

Just curious regarding the cost of Yunnan Gold.

3 oz. for $14.00

In 2006 was 6 oz. for $17.00.

This represents an over 60% increase in price. I would think originating from China's biggest tea producing region and with the sheer volume of business Adagio conducts, prices would go down.

Adagio has managed to keep it's cost identical for teas that I repeatedly order over the years.

For instance, 4 oz. of Irish Breakfast in 2006 cost $8.00. Yesterday I purchased 8 oz. for $13.00.

8 oz. of Wuyi Ensemble has stayed the same over the same 4 year period at $33.00 for 8 oz.

4 oz. of Darjeeling 22 is $12.00 while in 2007, 8 oz. was $19.00

While it seems most teas I repeat purchase have stayed the same in price or even gone down in the 5 years I've been ordering from Adagio, Yunnan Gold has skyrocketed. What gives? :)

There was a serious drought in yunnan this spring, causing much lower yields and tea prices to go up.

Prices at Jasetea and Hou De seem to vary. I'm sure the grade is a factor.
