I'm depressed.

I'm depressed.

Postby TwoPynts » Sep 24th, '10, 16:04

I've come to the realization that I my current rate of purchasing, I am never going to be able to drink all of my tea before it loses peak aroma and flavor. There are so many different varieties, and versions of those varieties. I want to try all kinds of tea and new batches are always coming in as well. I know I could always trade them, but I want to DRINK them!

I drink tea throughout the day and I still don't go through that much really. I think I would need a second bladder if I were to drink any more. I can see why a lot of tea drinkers move to pu-erh or aged oolongs. If you don't drink it all, at least you can leave it to your heirs as an investment.

I actually used to be really stressed out over this. Too much tea on hand, too much open at once, too many still untried.

Focusing on one type at a time helped me, this tactic is not for everyone albeit. But for around 5 years now, I have been focused on greens.

Then I just dabble in other types.

But I have to keep telling myself, "focus, focus, focus!"

convert some of your friends and family to tea, then you can use up your stash faster and get comparative opinion

I can definitely relate to you, I just ordered some new teas today and was looking at some other samples, when my kitchen is already loaded up with a very nice variety of teas. I have been sharing my teas with my co-workers, and one in particularly is really getting into loose leaf tea now which is fun to share together. Also remember, it's always better to have too much than not enough. :)

Well I am depressed about a different game: Yixings.

Freaking circus full of misinformed people and crooks. Two pots that ended up in the bin this week and three others under tight scrutiny. :x

A lot of teas but greens can be kept for a while without getting spoiled if you exercise a minimum of caution on how to keep them. At least I hope.

Maybe, you should ask Senator Palpatine and not Yoda for dark teas.

Get a huge oil drum and throw them all in there. Then have a huge gongfu session for the world.

"King Kongfu"

That's what that's called

I drink tons of green tea so even though I order a lot of it, it's usually consumed pretty quickly. On the other hand, many darker teas last much longer so I purchase them and just let them sit there until I feel like trying them. I do this mainly because some vendors of these teas have very limited quantities. If I wait until I actually feel like some, most likely they'll no longer be in stock.

I wouldn't worry too much about the darker teas, but I would if you're accumulating too much green tea.

My tea buying is finally calming down, after a year or two of being rather out of control, but I that was so helpful to figure out what I liked, that it was quite worth the cost of some perfect freshness in the greener oolongs and green teas.

Now I'm starting to do a little better: ordering green oolongs in 25-50g vacuum packs, opening only 1 or 2 of those at a time, limiting myself to one sencha at a time for the rest of the year.

But even a little past peak, when it's really good stuff, it's still pretty good. And you can use the sadness at those that really do go off as motivation for restraint with your next orders.

Thank you for your advice everyone.
I am feeling slightly better. I would share but most of the people I know are not so into tea as I am. I'm sure many of you experience this, right :?:
