WTH Gordon: UPDATED

by Geekgirl » Sep 26th, '10, 13:38

Update top of page 3.

Dragon Tea House is using one of my images in his listing. WTH? I thought that guy was a little more straight up than that?

Actually he's using SEVERAL stolen images, (I think I recognize one of Space's and somebody else's from here that I'm not placing at the moment, Seeker's I think.)

Not only that, but he has watermarked them all as HIS images.

Looks like there are 6 listings with the stolen images.

Pot in Pot is a naughty stealer too. Try and guess which ones they stole:

That's odd because I've been noticing photos I was pretty sure he took himself had a real studio look and feel lately. And consistent. Figured he had really invested in upping the photography. I would have noticed if they were stolen from here then.

I have moved this to Teaware and Accessories since it is images of teaware ... and accessories.

I find it apalling to just take somebody's images and use them on their commercial site, any legal issues aside. It is just wrong.

I am shocked tbh ...

So the matcha is not even the one he is selling? Looks like you are going to have to water mark your stuff. How weak.

At least not with any borrowed photos ...

LOL, no, the matcha in the photo is probably from Ippodo.

Wow, I'm shocked! I hate it when the product images are not of the actual product. I expect them to be of that very matcha I am considering buying. Very disappointing. I believe the blue Seigan is Scruff's.

Lots of images come up on Yahoo images, still he should have checked into it further. Tsk, tsk!

Not sure which is worse ... "borrowing" the images w/o asking permission, or the fact that the actual product listing is for matcha and the matcha pictured it is not even theirs!

When we buy tea from a vendor we assume the tea pictured is the actual tea we will receive. In this case, the tea pictured is Japanese, while I assume his is Chinese?

On a positive note Geek, "imitation" is the highest form of flattery ... though imitation is stretched to the max in this case.

We have the problem a lot in my job (advertising design) where people send us a photo they got from the internet, thinking that because it's out on the web, they have free reign to use it. It's hard for us to tell customers that we can't use the art they sent, but for integrity's sake and to avoid potential lawsuits, we have to be really careful. One of my designers had her work stolen and accredited to the thief. She had to threaten a lawsuit and they backed off.

I hope you can get this straightened out GG! Chip, is there any way to prevent downloads from TeaChat, if this is where the images were stolen from?

You hold the copyright on the images. Contact them and threaten to enforce it unless it is pulled. Then explain that your will allow them to continue to use it..... in exchange for a large volume of some nice tea or expensive teaware  .

best,

............john

There is HTML code that prevents right click saves.

I assume they were taken from Geek's flickr.

There are ways to prevent theft/borrowing.

Yep, that's a start but a screen capture can easily defeat that.

Oyyy I just saw the poppets. Wow, what we he thinking?
