Jerry just emailed me to say he's getting some very high quality cups made soon. 1mm thick.

These Gaiwans are so beautiful. Really great.
I can just take a look - 'cause sometimes I am clumsy and I would cry if I'd break a $100+ Gaiwan.

I really like those painted Jingde ware, I own only one gaiwan,

It makes me want to buy more of these painted porcelain, something with a more complicated painting.

He mentioned that to me as well, but said they break very easily so the problem will be shipping them safely.

I wondered what happened to that one! Very good choice. I was contemplating making that my second purchase. I was actually glad to see it gone, as it was more than I wanted to spend so soon after purchasing the tiger gaiwan. You save me about $60! Seriously, I think that one is a great piece. I like the Eight Immortals theme and I thought this one was very nicely done. I hope you're as satisfied with your purchase from this vendor as I was. I think you will be!

Your dilemma has returned.

Ah yes, I saw it before I saw Zensuji's post. Since I haven't yet received the second gaiwan I ordered from them, I managed to talk myself out of the eight immortals one for the time being. It is good to see that once they sell they get another one to replace it. This helps tame the impulse buying.

China is not a third-world of traditional arts and ceramics, no way

If it was, there had been no Chinoiserie, or 13th century's celadons found in Africa,

Before Yuan dynasty, there were only 2 countries who knew how to make celadon, China and Korea, glaze effect of iron that resembles a pure valley, the secret was in the kiln. Scientific structure was able to let pottery to survive at over 1300c

Yuan dynasty had Qing-Hua porcelain that later became China's best exportation, became 'china' itself. Qing dynasty, using a color-paint was popular like below

Don't save it, it's on my shipping cart

chrl42,

Is this piece you showed an antique or a modern piece? They just posted a similar gaiwan on China Cha Dao that is based on the same picture, although there are a few minor differences. The gaiwan shape is different, as is some of the coloring, the fan is a different shape, but other than that they are almost identical.

Very nice piece!

Yes, used it twice but did not have the camera out.

Shot some photos once but not ecstatic about the photos.

Today my Spirits Seigan cup arrived AND my Hojo Shigaraki - Chou Zhou pots should arrive soon

How do I get all the photos on Flickr without my g/f realising how much money I have been spending :D

Wow, that looks even better than in the vendors pics! I might have second thoughts about bypassing the replacement 8 immortals that was just listed except I already purchased another one from them that I hadn't seen before (Almost the same as the one Chrl42 posted pics of above). Good gaiwans seem to be almost as expensive as good Japanese teaware!
