Re: HAGI SO 12 "Spirits"
Really nice pictures, Herb_Master! It's nice to see one's cup's relatives in their respective homes I hope you feed it well!
I think that, considering the fact that these were so experimental, it is remarkable that the quality is very consistent. Each and every one we've seen has turned out great.
Although, compared to previous SOs, they did look more similar to each other on the vendor pics to begin with. Hence I didn't think there were any better/worse choices anyway.
I can imagine that Seigan put quite some effort into getting the quality to be this way.
I would say that this SO experiment was quite the success, Chip!

Re: HAGI SO 12 "Spirits"
A question for the Spirit owners: I have a Seigan Hagi that was not part of this SO, but has the same clay/glaze combination. I am curious as to whether I am seeing a trick of the light or the start of a very interesting response to use: it looks like the gray of the clay base might be changing to a warmer redder color in a few tiny spots where crackling is starting to stain.
Has anyone noticed anything like this, or is this just my imagination?

Re: HAGI SO 12 "Spirits"
I'm not sure. My Spirit looks remarkably "like new" even though I have used it frequently and primarily with fukamushi (because the green liquor looks so great in the blue of this cup!). The crackles don't look stained at all. The only thing that I believe has stained is the inside of the bubbles on the bottom of the inside of the cup, which I believe your new (beautiful!) cup doesn't have to begin with?!debunix wrote:A question for the Spirit owners: I have a Seigan Hagi that was not part of this SO, but has the same clay/glaze combination. Still love this cup!! The shape is so nice to hold. A little smaller and make the rim flared and it would be perfect. ...and a cut foot maybe

I'll check when I get home, but from what I recall, mine looks a lot like Chesslover's pictures above... the clay does not look granite-gray through the clear glaze.

Re: HAGI SO 12 "Spirits"
I will have to bring my cup home this week to see what the camera can show of the details of the color change. Indeed, it does not have the bouncy bubbles at the bottom, but it also does not have the lovely pool of blue either.Stentor wrote:The only thing that I believe has stained is the inside of the bubbles on the bottom of the inside of the cup, which I believe your new (beautiful!) cup doesn't have to begin with?!
