Firefox and Instant Messenger

by KellyM » Nov 3rd, '10, 09:29

Does the sidebar instant messenger not work with Firefox? Whenever I try to participate I never see the message that I tried sending.

I have Firefox and it works fine for me. It was recently hacked and has been offline. Perhaps you are experiencing that?

I can see other messages that people are writing... but whenever I type something in and hit "post"... nothing.

That sounds odd, but with the IM open, refresh Teachat and see if it works then.

Solved. You need 10 forum posts before you can post in Instant Messenger.

Glad I could help you Kelly ...

This is new protocol to help reduce IM abuse such as we have experienced recently. Unfortunately a few ruined it for many. http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=14151

Unfortunately now an anon or new member cannot pop on and ask a question ...

Not even sure if it's possible - but is there a way to disable chat until a member reaches the 10 post requirement?
If not, some sort of fyi may be useful for those who end up curious like I was.

(evil laugh - I'm now one post closer to IM!)

I know Athens! I ended up in an honor band while in high school and we had to go to OU for our practice/performance. I'm from the Cincinnati area.

I'm glad I did a search for this. Is there any way that this information can be more readily available for newbies to see? (Perhaps someone can add it to the forum rules?)

Well, that could also defeat the purpose of the covert nature if this protocol. A troll or spammer reads the rule, and posts 10 meaningless posts ... and there have been these types of problems which is why this was added.

It is a tough call to make.

I think adding a statement to the rules as to "why isn't my IM working?" Contact Moderator might be better.

Thanks for your input.

Sounds good--I didn't think about that one! It's probably why I'm not a forum moderator
