Hi, there.
I'm not a huge fan of hot tea, but I love it chilled, with just a touch of sweetening (about ½ a cup per gallon).
I'm looking for suggestions as to the best black teas for the purpose. Currently, Lipton is what's available to me, and I just want to find out if there's anything better.
(I've heard about Luzianne, but it's not available in my area, the SF Bay Area in California.)
Re: Iced Tea
There´s lots of options for tea in SF beyond Lipton at the supermarket
here´s a couple of pages that list tea shops in the SF area

Re: Iced Tea
There are also many online outlets.
A good tea would need less sweetener too. Have you tried sun tea?
Here are some varieties of black tea you could explore:

Re: Iced Tea
Nice to know where to go - but that's not what I was asking.
I'm looking for suggestions for actual teas that might fit the bill. Once I have names for teas, I can look for them in the area.

Re: Iced Tea
Keemun and Lychee Congou make pretty good iced tea as far as blacks go.
Also like 2nd flush darjeeling cold...usually go with Margaret´s Hope since their lower grades are easy to find.

Re: Iced Tea
best is so subjective. it just depends on what you like, as most, or should i say many, teas: green, oolong or black, make excellent iced tea. if you like a bit of sweetness try a flavored tea. jasmine tea iced is delicious.Stormraven wrote: I'm looking for suggestions as to the best black teas for the purpose.
for oolong teas, i prefer the nuttier, more roasted. they taste great iced.
something similar but much better quality to your present lipton iced tea may be a ceylon tea.
there are also several ways to brew iced tea. a good way to find out what you like is do a bit of reading on the subject, take a look at some tea websites, and then experiment. there are also sample tea packs especially for iced tea.
