Full ArticleHere's a little surprise about a seemingly innocent product, your everyday cup of tea: some of the world's biggest tea manufacturers engage in some pretty cruel animal testing. According to PETA, Lipton has been testing tea on animals so that it can make health claims about its products, despite that such tests are not sufficient to meet regulation standards for proving a product's health claims.

I don't like some of the things PETA does, but I don't see that organization as the issue, that being that a company is doing horrible things to animals to test a product that has been used for thousands of years.

The point is that you can't really trust any of their claims. Don't forget that their definition of cruelty includes keeping pets. It's very possible (and in my mind likely) that they were grossly exaggerating.beforewisdom wrote:I don't like some of the things PETA does, but I don't see that organization as the issue, that being that a company is doing horrible things to animals to test a product that has been used for thousands of years.
Granted, I can't say that I like the idea of Lipton doing research for the purpose of making health claims. I'd much rather that they just give money to independent researchers that are researching tea.

Absolutely!ABx wrote:I'd much rather that they just give money to independent researchers that are researching tea.
It'd help everyone, not just them, but of course, that's probably why they don't do it.
