Tiny bit, got a magnifyer out and there are LOTS of crackles. But so far they are resisting tea filling/staining of the crackles. So, there is some staining taking place, but much less than anticipated.

Only in a great lil' town.
May be a day before pics but it's nice.
Rugged yet elegant at the same time.
Excellent! That is pretty amazing, especially given the holiday ... someone at the PO is actually trying!!!

Some Roederer blanc de blanc :!:

I had very fine exterior crackling this AM.
And my cup was lightly crackled too

Now the first tea...... Lu an melon....

I can see a lot in the way of crackles in mine, but since I have yet to use it (!), I haven't seen any progression... Hoping to break it in tomorrow; it's a bit late for me and tea right now...

Some fine crackling is apparent today... very soft and subtle, quite different than any others. I am enjoying the newness. :) I will try to do some pics in a bit.

It's so pretty inside; I'll almost be sad if it does crackle... With the glazes that are smooth and white inside, they're already so beautiful...

That said, my snowdrift is currently attempting to contain a cupful of Ujibashi San no Ma.

I got my cup this morning :) I'm surprised by how heavy it is and by how nice it feels in the hand. I thought the carved lines would make the feel in the hand more awkward but it doesn't.

The vertical lines in the glaze which are not so deeply carved are stunning!

Thanks Chip for offering two SO:s so completely different as the last two :)

Thank you, Chip, my knight in shining Tea-armour!

Ed finally got it open, and it is gorgeous! Great striations, and fits my left hand. I'm ambidextrous when it comes to tea cup holding!!

This is the first Hagi lefty cup that causes righties to adapt. A win for the lefties of the world!

I am seeing more and more visible crackles with each use, so it resists but is not crackle-proof.

Yes, the vertical lines are really stunning!

You are welcome, this is quite rewarding and the sharing is outstanding!

While this exact piece will not likely make an encore to the Hagi SO program, look for more Eiichi, definitely! SO 17 or 18 is already tentatively planned for an Eiichi, and I certainly hope to check out what else this guy has up his sleeves.

Ok tea peeps,
Here is the pre soak.
You can see we are giving off bubbles...

Image

That's what gave me the idea to christen her with champagne.
So, we've had one session with bubbly, and 2 green tea multi steeps.
Crackling is evident on the outside, the interior is resisting.
so far....

Speaking of soaking ... for those newer to Hagi, a hot water presoak before using is recommended. Please let me know if you want more info on the subject.

The details are not set in stone, I tend to go hotter and longer than some. I simply set it in a pot of warm water and raise the temp slowly to approaching boil. Avoid boiling as your cup will bounce around, not good.

As the water approaches boil, turn off the heat and let sit in the water til cool enough to reach in and remove ...

One other reallllly BIG thing with Hagi ... is allowing it to dry fully for several days in a well ventilated spot before placing back in the box.
