Hellllloooooo! Welcome to a new year of Tea and TeaChat! Start it off right, begin brewing, and share what is in your cup throughout the day.
Over the past weekend we discussed whether Tea would reign supreme in 2011. You can still vote and discuss this topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Soooo, has 2011 already had you trying a new tea or teas? Or will it soon? Please share.
I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay ... and TeaYear with everyone. Bottoms up.

Four unopened packages are waiting for me. Chinese greens: Huang Shan Mao Feng and Mao Jian AAA from jing tea shop. And Japanese greens: Kabusecha and Jutaka Midori Supreme from o-cha. So many nice moments are waiting for me.
For those who already tried these teas, can you please give me some brewing parameters, just to have a starting point. thanks

Just had a nice cuppa' of Fortnum and Mason's Queen Anne blend (TGFOP Assam and Ceylon FBOP), Brisk and satisfying; definitely needs milk. My nephew's wife sent it to me after she visited England. I thought it was very sweet of her to think of me while she was there.
That's my new tea so far this year.

This year I'm going to expand into Japanese and Korean Teas. I sadly know way too little about them and their tea cultures. It should be an exciting year!
Re: Monday TeaDay 1/3/11 New year, new tea?
2010 was the year of chinese teas - greens, whites and yellows. My inventory is running low, and my plan is to enjoy what I have left while spending the winter drinking my way through my stash of puerh samples and loose puerh. Most of the puerhs are unopened - hence the new tea.

No new tea yet but hopefully very VERY SOON, just waiting for my order from norbu to arrive. According to the tracking information it is out for delivery. I just hope it comes before i go to work, the mail arround here is unpredictable some days it arrives before 9 and some days its is after 2, you just never know.
Starting the day with otti tgy #2, hopefully to be followed by pu.

Very soon!
I'm ordering the Kagoshima Sencha Sae Midori from O-Cha as well as their Houjicha. I haven't had either yet. I'm also going to order some winter oolongs from Floating Leaves soon. Haven't decided which ones yet though. Looking forward to the new discoveries and new beginnings in 2011.
THis morning no tea while fasting for a doctor's appt. Boo.

Several new teas already this year (and a few more a couple days before the new year as well). Several new sencha, one from TeaGallery and 4 from Umami-Chaya were highlights. Also a couple oolong, and a pu-erh. That is about it.
A very good start to the year!!!
Also will have some new teas very soon as well!

Not sure what apparatus you have or do not have. I use a scale to weigh the leaves, and we typically discuss ratio of leaf to water ... a common example is 1 gram leaf per 1 ounce water, a 1:1 ratio. Some like it lighter, 0.75:1. You will figure your own tastes out as you go. I usually go with 1:1, but you can start lighter.solitude wrote:Four unopened packages are waiting for me. Temp, cool, 155* in a preheated pot. 45-60 seconds for YM and 90ish for Kabusecha.
Good for multiple steeps!
Enjoy!!!

I have a scale and I am using usually 1g of tea per ounce of soft water as well. I think in this case I have to take care about the different stepping times for the sencha and kabusecha. Looking forward
