nice choices. very atmospheric piano works in there, which may be nice for teachrl42 wrote:I like to listen to lieder of Schubert and Wolf, and piano works of Faure, Scriabin and Satie, to accompany with tea. Hyperion offers fine collection of Schubert and Schwarzkopf for Wolf, de Leeuw for Satie who plays a bit slower tempo than most. I fell in love with Joanna Wang lately, who's quoted as Chinese Norah Jones

The thing with Hanggai is that you don't really need anything. It's like a rock band, except that they throath-sing Mongolian style (sometimes), have some Mongolian instruments, and dress as Mongolian folklore. Apart from that, it's the same rock songs, almost cowboy style (after all the horse plays and the urga plays a large role). I've heard some Chinese folk that needs one to really understand what's going on, because there's no music so to speak. With Hanggai this is not the case, I find.chrl42 wrote:looks like they are comin to Beijing this 24th, I might have to check em out even though my knowledge about folk is limited to Bob Dylan and Nick Drakeskilfautdire wrote:(Mongolia) Hanggai
China too has many amazing folk singers, but too many dwell on the street and in subways..
Here's a pro video for a TV show in Holland. This will give a much better representation than the other link I have posted. The video and sound are very good. A German comment for this song says it is inspired by Metallica. If I was in Bejing I'd go, no doubt. Then again, they're Bejing-based, so the chances of seeing them could be good anyways.

Here is one for these times. It is not Santa Claus, but it does have a marvelous feeling.
Japan's very special Shibusa Shirazu along with their silver dragon in a very nice setting in Nantes, France, September 2007.

Indeed, they're quite amazing, to say the least. Japan's Shibusa Shirazu is perhaps the most unique band/performing act.
So that people who saw the link above, which is very nice and quiet, does not have the impression that this is some kind of a new age band, here is another link showing the opposite. It was filmed at Fuji Rock 2002 using an excellent sense of camera timing and editing as well as robotized cameras and 1 helicopter I think.
For me Shibusa Shirazu represents acting of living. Makes me wonder what Japanese butoh theatre is.
A search on Youtube will yield more scenes, for the interested. They were in North America for the first time in 2008, for the Québec Summer Festival.

Butoh is actually quite interesting, albeit creepy at points. It goes with free jazz perfectly, and I shall now refer to this band to every person I know

Re: What music do you listen to?
Varies greatly. For a while it was only the Beatles, now it's only Bob Dylan.
For classics, which I find go great with tea, I love Vivaldi (violin concertos especially) and Mozart's symphonies. Also have some stuff which I think is "neo-classic", including kashiwa daisuke and Shuta Hasunuma.

My brother is a massage therapist since the mid to late 90s, and he just gave me a collection of his favorite spa music for Christmas. We've made each other mixed-tapes/cds for years. The groups vary greatly, but all of the music is quite soothing. Good thing I have some tea to keep me alert!

I listen to classical. Bunches of classicism all the way up to impressionism.
So, Mozart, Chopin, Lizst, Faure, Debussy, Ravel, and plenty of others.
For non tea drinking, I also listen to cool jazz from the 50's.
I'm mostly deaf, though, so it has to be CRANKED for me to really hear it.
Cheers and whatnot,
Bryan

Re: What music do you listen to?
I do not necessarily associate tea drinking with relaxing, calm, tranquil music. I see many people do. For me drinking tea has to do with all aspects of life. Heck, a strong cup of Bi Luo Chun will give quite a boost! So I enjoy, when it coincides, drinking tea and listening to a tune or two by Rammstein, as well as any other type of music. Tea is life, music is life, well, making it short: all is life. Certainly drinking tea is not asscoiated for me as solely a relaxing, pondering moment as if an ashram would be the only place to meditate. Tea is also energic.

Definitely a (pleasant) surprise to see other people listening to dubstep. Bassnectar and skrillrex are definitely my top two. Just started getting into it so any suggestions are welcomeentropyembrace wrote:I listen to many kinds of music depending on my mood!
I´m a DJ and I specialize in Industrial music and EBM but I tend not to listen to them that much when I´m not DJing or preparing for my weekly set.
Lately I´ve been listening to dubstep and ambient/tribal industrial when I´ve just been playing albums to listen to casually...here´s a couple of my recent favourites

I think it depends on what mood I'm in, usually the kind of tea drinking music I listen to is the same as what I usually listen too so not really any difference.skilfautdire wrote:I do not necessarily associate tea drinking with relaxing, calm, tranquil music. Usually it's pretty calm music (though one could argue most of what I listen to is pretty calm music), but there's a time and place for everything.
