Hagi SO 14 "SnowDrifts"
Re: NEW! Hagi SO 14 "SnowDrifts"
Wow, ian, that's an amazing progression on the snowdrift!
Stentor, my Tempest doesn't have white spaces as large as yours, but definitely larger than the snowdrift. For awhile, at the bottom of the inside of the cup, the crackling lines were lighter (like a pink or light brown), where I assumed the glaze was thicker, so it was taking longer to stain.
At this point, it's pretty much all caught up all around...

I just took an almost identical shot of the developing crackles on one of my 'tempest' cups 2 days ago (haven't had time to photoshop and post, but will do so in the general Hagi topic soon): big widely spaced lines, very different from the fine crazing of the snowdrifts.

Enjoying a splendid TeaHabitat Dan Cong, Kan Tou/Stone wall edge, in the snowdrift tonight, and noticing the very complete, fine netting of crackles in the inner cup, and the near complete absence of external cracks so far. Quite delightful to watch the progress of this one.

This has been a quiet topic for a while. I'm suing my "Snowdrifts" and today particularly noticing the fine crackles startin gto show more on the outside of the cup--not just when I look very closely, but starting to be visible in a quick glance from a few feet away. Wondering how long it will take for the staining to progress completely on the outside as much as it has on the insde--at present rates of use of about 3 days a month, 2-3 teas/day.

Snowdrifts here have only ever held Sencha ... but the internal crackles are epic. Crackles are beginning to show on the exterior ... barely.
But Snowdrifts remains a fave Hagi SO piece. I would expect to see a new take on this if Eiichi is willing and able in a future SO.

At the satellite office where I spend 3 days a month, the SnowDrifts is the only teacup I use, so it gets every kind of tea, many hours a day. I need to document it's progression properly one of these days, but it's not easy to get the right camera and the cup in the same place at the same time.

What would be cool would be a time lapse series over months or years ...

My snowdrift is in heavy rotation.
Only seen greens.
Inside is crazy, and out side coming along.
Maybe one of fav. SO s.
Both visually and tactile.

I brought Snowdrifts to this office specifically because I can't get tired of it, and because it handles teas brewed at different temperatures so well.
To keep it all in the family, as I've been shooting my new Eiichi Commission piece, I'm drinking from my Rock, whose thin walls are tricky to manipulate when filled with hot-brewed tea. Very different performance and personalities in these two pieces.....but can't figure out which one the Commish resembles more yet because it's soaking for tomorrow's debut.
