I think for me, the culture and history behind tea really stands out in my mind. It's a piece of living culture that we can still enjoy. We can pretty much experience the same sensations and enjoyment as people hundreds of years ago. It brings China's history alive to me in a way little else can.

That's why I bother with it....

Trying to decide what form of deliciousness I want right now....sweet, floral, light oolong? deep, earthy puerh? Need a thermos full, can't go for the delicate stuff....but it's morning and I want my green first....

There are so many intriguing aspects of tea, and certainly IPT's is a worthy choice.

Aspects I have thought of so far today, but not limited to:
Tea cultures ... yesterday and today
The wonderful methodologies of brewing tea
How tea interacts with our senses

Still thinking ... but the above three are of pretty close significance to me.

Great TD beginning with Kiwame sencha from Zencha followed by 7132 from O-Cha, and finishing with Sejak (sp?) Korean green from a TCer.

Aspects of Tea. . . Hmmmmm.

The history and culture of Tea is high on my list.
But #1 with me would be our family's own tradition of Tea as sustenance in times of trouble; a family time to gather to connect our disparate lives; a break in a busy day; a break in a lonely day, during which to think of all those we've had tea with over the years who are no longer with us. And, last but not least, a cuppa' to celebrate anything!!!!!

Hmmm, quiet topic so far.

I'm with debunix -- at the end of the day, it's something delicious. It brings with it a sense of calming, relaxation, meditation.

But the topic is also extremely complex, and brings with it other extremely fascinating pieces, such as the history and culture that others have mentioned. And then there's the chemistry itself of the tea that forms the foundation of what we're tasting and feeling!

Very neat. 8)

Today, another aspect of tea: started with some Shizuoka sencha from Norbu, but then moved on to a new tea, San Nen Bancha - 3 Year Aged Bancha - Medium Roast by Norbu Tea. It's comforting--a friendly cozy tea. It is warm, toasty, mellow, a little sweet. The dry stems and leaves smell very darkly toasted, much like a genmaicha, but the brew, while clearly toasty, has none of the bitter scorched notes that have put me off of that tea. I love it.

Culture and History are very important in my enjoyment of tea and IPT put it really well.

Without thinking to abstractly about it, I feel the aspect of tea that effects me most immediately is the ritual of brewing. Just the act of warming the pot, adding the leaf, pouring the water and witnessing the transformation of the leaf...it's all just incredibly soothing for me. The sights, the smells, the movements of my hands and arms...

You get the picture. I think you've all been there once or twice.

Finished a weekend of mostly otti pu with kagoshima sencha from Harney and Sons.

Many many aspects of tea appeal to me but the one that stands out the most has to be the taste. Everything else is nice but if the tea didn't taste good then I wouldn't be drinking it.
