OTTI Gyokuro Super Premo, an event not to be missed!
I do not want to steal the current Pu-OTTI's thunder, but I did want to give everyone a heads up on what is coming up. OTTI 10 will be the first of 3 OTTI focusing on PREMIUM GYOKURO! Not just any Gyokuro! But really premo leaf!
OTTI 10 will focus on Gyokuro 75 - 85 +/- USD per 100 grams. Some will likely cost more and some a bit less. This will be much different than previous OTTI. Each participant will receive 5 different gyokuro samples from 5 different "qualified" vendors consisting of 10 grams each, so 50 grams total. Simple math will tell you that the cost will be $40 per participant, shipped in a box, total cost target is under $45.
This will be a very rare opportunity to sample 5 different super high end gyokuro from 5 different vendors without shelling out 100's of dollars.
All the Gyokuro-s will be purchased by me and will be held unopened until all 5 gyokuro-s are in house and prepared for shipping to participants. More simple math will tell you that this will be a very large outlay on my part, thus this will be a prepay event, before I order. This will also confirm each participants commitment to this OTTI, and prevent me from selling the Mrs.'s organs on the black market.
More math, I will open these up in blocks of 10 participants due to the math involved, since most gyokuro-s are available in 50 or 100 gram bags. I am not placing any other limits at this time on the total number of participants.
All 5 selections are not quite finalized, except one ... Tsuru Jirushi

The following Gyokuro OTTI will focus on 60 - 75 USD per 100 gram gyokuro.
The last Gyokuro in this series of 3 Gyokuro OTTI will focus on gyokuro costing 100 USD +/- per 100 grams!
There will be time gaps between these 3 OTTI with other OTTI's in between as well.

Indeed, and unlike sencha, I actually don't mind drinking gyokuro

A gyokuro sampler is a tea dream come true. My little kyusu has been sitting neglected on the shelf while I drink chinese teas.

A rabbit trail ... I am considering splitting the OTTI in general.
Create something like JTTI, pronounced jatti and standing for Japanese Tea Tasting Initiative, and offer one JTTI round per month as a goal and would include teas like sencha, gyokuro, matcha, karigane/kukicha, guricha, etc. And seasonal offerings like a sakura tasting.
Then all other teas would be under OTTI and we would shoot for one of these per month.
This would give all the other teas more of an opportunity instead of competing so to speak with Japanese teas.
I will post this in a new topic and would welcome your comments there!

Great idea. Not sure about every month but every 2 months should easily keep us busy for a year. That's not to say that I'm opposed to a monthly JTTI (JOTTI?
)
Oh and Gyokuro tasting sounds good whatever you want to call it

I like the sound of this and am, greatly, looking forward to this. This gives me more impetus to getting a houhin as well.
