If I go very general, all my favorites fall within greens and oolongs.

More specific:
Japanese asamushi (light-steamed) sencha
Korean greens
Taiwanese High Mountain oolongs
Wuyi oolongs

I had a cup of honey orchid oolong this morning. Sadly, no more tea until later!

O-Cha's Sencha Sae Midori

O-Cha's Kaoru organic matcha

Teasource's Himalayan Shila Black

Whatever good silver needle I can get my hands on.

Teasource's Blue Beauty oolong

Oops, I voted wrong; that's 4, not 3.

I most often drink teas with a cooling chaqi, because they suit my metabolism better. It's hindered my development of skills with teas where the chaqi is definitely warming, because I don't listen to the tea as well. Yet.

I'll spare you all the details and just say that I have 3 general favorite types of tea.

Sencha
Yancha
Green Oolong from Taiwan
(Aged Oolong in a close 4th place)

I have a lot more tea to taste, even a lot more to taste within those categories. I look forward to one day venturing into puerh in a more committed fashion, but for now, these 3 teas could take me to my grave.

This morning, I'm having a heavily roasted TGY from the Mandarin's Tea. Excellent value considering how outstanding the tea is. Smells and tastes like roasted cacao underscored by hint of coffee bean. The roast is apparent without tasting smoky and it lasts forever. Literally. It's immortal.

I'm in the early stages, still sampling and figuring out what I like. My tastes seem to be leaning towards shu Pu-erh and Chinese blacks(reds). All the Pu-erhs I've tried so far have been from Upton Tea, with my favorite being their ZH25: China Pu-Erh Standard. I have some samples on the way from Jas-eTea, which should arrive today. I might have a new Pu-erh favorite in the near future. All of my other current favorites are also from Upton Tea. I know, I need to try more vendors. I like their Lapsang Souchong Imperial, Lapsang Souchong Black Dragon, and Finest Russian Caravan. I just recently sampled Upton's Original Earl Grey, which was great with just a hint of honey added.

At the moment my mug contains Upton's Pu-Erh Mini Squares. Well, the liquor from the mini-squares, actually. The squares themselves are still in the pot, and aren't square anymore. :-) It's the last of a recent sample. It's okay, but could be a bit more earthy for my taste.

1. yan cha
2. sencha (Yame and Uji)
3. dancong
4. gyokuro (Yame and Uji)
5. matcha (Yame and Uji)
6. everything else

Finished the last Hou de's 2009 shui xian, had a few infusion of Jing's gift-grade keemun (hangover from yesterday), some kanro in a few minutes, and there will probably be a late session with day two of the Mandarin's 2008 shui xian dancong. It has been a pretty good tea day so far.

Or is it 3?

We could have picked `white green yellow oolong red' and kept the black in reserve.

Sencha Maruyama with supper.

Four general types? Maybe five, but only if I had more money!

Green:
Matcha (Uji)
Fukamushi Sencha
Gyokuro (Uji)

Oolong:
Dan Cong
anything roasted

Black:
Yunnan

White:
Silver Needles

In the future I might add pu'erh, but still discovering whether I really really love it or not.
