List of (almost) all the teas in China

by maxtillberg » Feb 27th, '11, 08:09

I have compiled a list of the most famous teas in China. The list is quite large, over a thousand teas are listed with name (Chinese and transcribed), place of origin, type, availability and source of information. Some of the teas are also described in great detail. All the information is in Swedish but can easily be translated with Google translate. If you find any errors or have any suggestions, please let me know.

The list can be found at http://www.tillbergs.se/node/378

Impressive. I will have to take a longer look at this when I have more time. I see that you did include type of tea, maybe separated by types would have been my personal preference.

Hej, I've shown the list to a Chinese colleague and he was able to find 'obscure' teas from his home area. So far that list seems to be extremly unique as a central reference for all Chinese teas. I hope your work gets fully appreciated because it's great. If it ever gets completed with all Google maps links and descriptions, it will be truly outstanding.

That's very impressive! :D The most inclusive list I've ever seen! If I find a tea not in your list, I will send some samples to you. I encourage other people to do so too. :D

Thanks for all nice comments. I will write about the teas when I try them out so hopefully 20-30 teas will be described each year. I have written about Yixing Hong Cha at http://www.tillbergs.se/node/184 but not included it in the list since it does not fulfill all the requirements. Still it's a very nice tea that I first was served by the great artist Wu Ming when I visited his studio in Yixing many years ago. I tried to find more of this tea at the time and even rented a car and searched the stores in Yixing but I could not find any. Nowadays it's rather easy to find but for some reason it's not mentioned in Chinese literature.

The requirements are listed on the page he linked.

Maxtillberg,

That is quite a feat of endurance. Thank you for sharing it. I look forward to poking around on your site.

There is quite a lot of information at my website. You can find a list of all the etstates in Darjeeling and maps of the teas areas in China and Taiwan. I also made a list of all the teas estates in Sri Lanka (I think it was 2000 of them) but this was lost in a major computer crasch a few years ago.
