Hey Tead Off - how have you been?

So any particular teas that you recommend we try with bizen? Is it a category or just experimentation tea by tea?

The Bizen pot I have is slightly large for me, 160-170ml, so I reserve it for teas I want to drink a bit more of like Sun Moon Lake. I bet Puerh would be good in these but I haven't tried. Heavier teas come to mind for this clay.

Artistic Nippon had a couple of "aobizen" items for sale recently. I picked up a kyuusu and a cup (and I noticed somebody else picked up the other cup shortly after!)...

I was smitten with the kyuusu the moment I saw it. I only own one other kyuusu (a yohen gyokko), so this is definitely one of my special purchases for the year.

Image

Here's the back... the hidasuki marks on the kyuusu are a light brown... very neat.

And a shot of the beautiful bottom in the fading sunlight... you can see the marks a bit clearer in this shot.

AN had a few cups of the 'ao' type -- two of them were cups that had the typical bizen scorching on the outside, but were 'raw' (ao -- blue, or in this case, blue-gray) on the inside. Actually one of the cups seemed more golden, which was interesting. But they also had a "pure" ao cup. That's the one I picked up, mostly because it reminded me of the Hagi Special Offering "Snowdrifts." In fact, my last picture is of the two side-by-side... a little blurry, but will try to get a better picture when the lighting is better.

This cup reminds me of the "thawed" version of the hagi...

I got some other items from AN, but more along the lines of accessories. Will share those later...

Celebrating 100 Days with my boyfriend with a bit of wuyi! (A lot of Korean couples celebrate this day.)

I got the yunomi from TSUCHIKARA POTTERY about a month ago, the Matsukawa kyusu arrived a few days ago from Yuuki-Cha, and the saucers/cup rests are brand new! We found them in a tea shop in Daegu. Happy 100 Days to me.

We were a little too lazy to bring out the tray, so please excuse our tea towel.

Using this tokoname-yaki kyusu for some time already, quite cheap, but i really like color and decoration, also it's still very well made. Size is 280ml, perfect for my personal use. It's quite flat, so tea leaves spread really well.

Nice chawan Darwin! Ippuku's works often have a very Bizenesque thing going on!

Nice new pieces everyone!

thanks guys!

it does have a bizenesque thing going on...

i just notice that the inside of the bowl is yellow colored and has a rough texture. i was wondering if it is a form of glaze or something since i dont really know a lot about pottery. im not sure if there would be much to say just by looking at the poor pictures i have posted on what the yellow stuff is.

this is the description for the bowl:

Wood fired Chawan with Shino glaze.
wood ash from oak tree added the earthy yellow/brown/grey color.
It feels the power from the Earth, waiting for the spring.
Hold, feel, enjoy the Earth!
5 3/4" diameter
2 3/4" height
Microwave, dishwasher, food safe
