Throat ache, any nice herbs?

by febs » Nov 18th, '10, 06:34

Since some days I'm suffering from a slight but annoying throat ache; and since I drink plenty of cups of tea per day (5-6) I think that it could be nice to put some herbs into it to help to calm down the throat soreness.

Would you have any recommendation? Either some herbs to mix to do a herbal tea, or just some to add to ordinary green (or black) tea.

Thanks everybody!

I'd go with honey then :)

Today I tried ginger and while strong it worked pretty well, if not for my throat, definitely for my cold in general.

I love kava kava...the numbing tingly effect is worth the taste....but back to other herbs

Try an echinacea tincture, I like Gaia herbs their tinctures seem to be stronger. Echinacea has a natural anesthetic effect which reminds me of the effect of kava but stronger. Try gargling with the echinacea tincture.

While doing the echinacea 4 or more times a day (use a full dropperful each time at the very least) also get a good colloidal silver ( I recommend utopia silver, mesosilver, or source naturals as all those brands are true colloidals; most brands that say colloidal silver are really ionic silver). Put a tablespoon of that in your mouth and swish it around and gargle it for a minimum of a minute, then swallow. Do that 3 times a day.

Also consider getting oil of oregano it's powerful.

I forgot to add, get some slippery elm bark lozenges...not only is it nutritious but it's a good mouth and throat coater.

And use a netti pot at least twice a day to clear out those sinuses in case post nasal drip is causing the sore throat.

before modern anasthetics were introduced, numbing in dental work was achieved by use of 'clove oil'.

Try throwing a few clove buds in.

the problem is, that I have to find a European seller (amazon UK definitely has a small portion of the whole amazon catalog; but I'll check). S&H costs, + time, + darn customs makes ordering from the US a real pain.

But probably the best thing I can do is to search for the Italian name of these and go to a herbalist (hoping to have luck).

Thanks!

(btw, in the while I feel a LOT better ;). I used ginger and honey.

Many of the liangcha are helpful for sore throat. Chinese herbal teas
including:

Sang Ju Tea (Mulberry and Chrysanthemum Tea)

I have always used wang lao ji/wong lo kat

another favorite of mine is
luo han fruit

I am a fan of good old peppermint tea when I get a sore throat. I like how the tea is hot, then the peppermint itself has a cooling effect on the sore areas. I usually put honey in it as well. The effect of peppermint on a sore throat isn't for everyone though, my fiancee finds that the cooling effect actually makes her more uncomfortable.

You can try Biwa-cha (Loquat tea.) You can drink it warm, cold and even over ice. Biwa-cha is suited for boosting body's general immunity, and especially for relieving sore throats and coughs. Biwa extract is widely used in Chinese medicine for soothing the throat and as a mild expectorant.
