When I first tested it out (with a Korean green and then sencha) I had no issues (it actually felt great in my hand), but last night I gave it a run with some Wuyi and YES, it's very, very HOT. Either you can't fill it up more than halfway (so you can hold it by the top) or just use it for cooler teas. I'll be doing the latter because I really love the feeling of it in my hands (when it's not burning away my fingertips).

Excellent. What will the first cup be?

Melting glaze, blistering fingers ... molten ROCK!

Unfortunately, have not taken a ROCK for a test drive yet, so I cannot speak about the heat ... and I might never really know since it will be used for SENCHA! Surprise surprise!

I have been drinking from the ROCK all morning and I very much enjoy the feel of this cup. I was expecting it to be much heavier looking at the photos, but it is lightweight, and the perfect size for my hands.

Winter high mountain Ali Shan from Norbu for its first tea! Very nice.

So gorgeous! Which number did you end up with, if you don't mind me asking?

It is fun watching the enthusiasm unfold on this thread. Nice to see handmade teaware in the hands of those who love it.

I have my precious! :D I actually picked it up yesterday, but I was so busy taking pictures and making tea that I didn't have time to post. But I thought I'd share ... so here is Rock #7, and my very first hagi!

Image

It was hard to pick one out of all the gorgeous ROCKs. I think I finally settled on this one because there literally is not an uninteresting side to this piece--every single side has a different pattern of light and dark that makes it amazing to look at. Here are some closeups:

Since I realize not everyone might be as fascinated with my new baby as I am, there are more pics here--https://picasaweb.google.com/1106711639 ... directlink--if anyone is interested. :D

So far I've tried it with sencha, and it's a very interesting feel--the contrast of glaze vs. unglazed surface against the lip is very neat. I have to agree with what others have said, though--this cup gets very hot! Especially on the unglazed surfaces--I haven't tried it with yancha yet, but I'll definitely have to be careful with my fingers when I do ....

So, So, hard to choose, all are amazing.

For those who like to Rock, we salute you 8)
Errmm, if it's made by Deishi's grandson does that make it Punk Rock?
OK this could go on all night
But here is some psychedelic rock, RIP Bear
