Re: Price of Darjeeling tea
Hey Tead where are you going to order your darjeeling from this season?
Anything you are eying right now and just have to get when it arrives?
I am a Darjeeling virgin and would like to find delicious suitor/suitors, at least looking to try flush one and two, but the monsoon and autumn I would like to try also if you have good recommendations.
I really prefer somewhere that accepts paypal though I can do the credit if I have to

www.teaemporium.com is your easiest and safest choice, online. There are other good sellers but Rajiv tries hard and you can ask him anything.
Now, the 1st flush are coming but you can still buy Autumnal and even last year's 2nd flush. Ask him which are the best and tell him you are new to Darjeelings.
I still have too much tea from last year and I am on my way to Korea soon for the new harvest, so I am waiting till I return.

Re: Price of Darjeeling tea
I think people everywhere are prone to cheating if they can make money that way. It may happen more in one country than in another, but that's probably more because of a lack of regulation rather than some "national character flaw."
Anyway, if the tea tastes good, I don't care if it all came from the steep slopes of Darjeeling or if it was mixed in with something else, like Sikkim or Nepal or whatever. If it's good, it's good.

Re: Price of Darjeeling tea
Recently, in Korea, at a tea festival in Hadong, I ran into a French tea seller who had just been in Darjeeling on a buying trip. He told me even more disturbing news about the rampant mixing of lower grade teas with the better leaves. He is convinced that this is taking place in the gardens themselves where the growers are processing and mixing their teas before they leave their premises for the local distributors and tea sellers. He would spend time talking to the actual workers and pickers who confided this information to him several times. If true, many of the sellers of Darjeeling tea would not even know this was occurring, but, they do know that more Darjeeling is sold than produced. Big business knows how to ruin just about everything. I will still buy Darjeelings but I will always wonder about purity despite reassurances from vendors.

Re: Price of Darjeeling tea
I've succesfully spotted an online tea vendor who sells 1000g authentic Darjeeling tea for 26€. Not bad at all. They run radiation tests and chemical tests on all their teas and have a full traceability system where you can actually download all documents on your pc
