Hello from Illinois

by Coppery Cup » Apr 27th, '11, 17:24

Hi, I just signed up today and am hoping this will be a great resource for tea info and chat.

I have been drinking premium loose teas for only about 2 years or so and still doing lots of experimenting and I 'd like to learn more. Started off with mostly flavored black and green teas, but starting to try more traditional straight up teas (Assam, Jasmine, Lapsang Souchong, Green Oolong and such). Other than Jasmine and Mint, haven't found many green teas that I am too crazy about-and my favorite comes in a bag! I have tried several Rooibush teas, but only found a couple I really like. I like flavored White tea, but I just bought some Chinese Fancy White Peony that I am anxious to try. I have a bit of a acid reflux problem so I can't drink as much tea as I like and have to supplement with a bit of decaf.

Anyhow, it's nice to be here.

Welcome to teachat! :)

Green teas can be tricky, especially with brewing--if you're finding your green tea is turning out too bitter, you might try steeping for shorter times or with cooler temp water--you often get a much better tasting brew that way rather than the 2-3 min steep most places will recommend ....

Thanks for the welcome and the advice, hopeofdawn. I think I may play around with the brewing time and temp for my Jasmine since the flavor has deteriorated a bit.

Hi to one Midwest Cup to another!

I'm in the Chicago area here and for once there is some sun today. Such a strange spring we are having this year. I look forward to your chats. This is a great group!

Cheers!

Thanks, Chip and Windy City. I wish I lived closer to the city, because downstate there is absolutely nothing in tea shops, accessories. Have to go to Chicago or St. Louis. I did post my greatest tea for April in the TeaDay discussion. Thanks again.
