Does anyone know if vendors besides Den's offers either sampler packs of green teas (Sencha, shincha, or gyokuru) or sample sizes? I am not expecting a freebie, just a small size (maybe one or two sessions worth) so that I can try some different stuff without investing in an entire packet at $25+ a pop.
BTW, I really did appreciate the Den's sampler and have been a regular customer since.
Thanks-
Ed

OTTI, a dual shincha OTTI is coming up shortly. One round will feature asamushi and the other will feature fuka/chu.bigmonstertruck wrote:Does anyone know if vendors besides Den's offers either sampler packs of green teas (Sencha, shincha, or gyokuru) or sample sizes? Specialty sencha vendors do not seem overly interested in offering samples. Perhaps they should start.

It's interesting which size of samplers people prefer more, 10g, 20g, 30g, 50g or depends on max price per bag?

I've not ordered from here, but I like the look of their 5g sampler:

I would not call 50 g (or even 30g) a sample. A sample should be about one or possibly two pots IMO. about 5 to 10g

I've had the Obubu sampler, it is pretty good, but I got it when it was on sale ($15 including shipping). At $25 it's a bit pricey - you do get 100g of tea, but, included in that 100g are 4 kinds of houjicha, a bag of genmai (no leaves), and a bag of pickled sakura leaves- meaning 30g of the sampler isn't really expensive leaf at all.
I agree; Den's sampler is great - also, when you order, you can request other samples that you'd like to try. In fact, I was once trying to decide whether to go with a large amount of the mid or high level sencha (I hadn't tried either one), and simply asked if they could send me a sample of each, which they gladly did (free), and then I was able to decide which I wanted to order.
But yeah, other vendors should start, too!

Seven Cups offers samplers of green teas and rock oolongs. I've tried both, though it's been awhile. And they were both quite decent samplers.

Maiko has a sampler of Yamashita's 5 gyokuro. It's towards the bottom of the page here.
