gaiwan drinking

by m147 » May 21st, '11, 10:23

hello. new to the forum, new to the proper way of drinking tea. anyway, i'll be getting a gaiwan soon as i get paid. but my question is this, drinking directly from the gaiwan, the tea leaves sit in the cup. i've read that you warm it, pour the water out, add the tea, pour water, steep for 1-2mins, then drink. so my question is, since the leaves sit in the gaiwan as you drink, won't the tea just keep getting more and more steeped?

thank you.

The timing of the steep and the temperature of the water you brew it with will be determined by the tea you are preparing. It's always good to pre-heat the gaiwan, yes. (There may be cases when it's not, but again, that's determined by the tea.)

I don't have much personal experience with it, but you might want to look into and understand "Grandpa Style."
There are many ways to use a gaiwan. THis thread is not the end-all, but it might be a place to start: http://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f= ... le#p178642
