Saturday/Sunday TeaDay 6/11/11, More teas, more steeps?

by Chip » Jun 11th, '11, 03:08

Greetings everyone. Welcome to a FreeDay TeaDay. Stop in throughout the day and share what is in your cup with us ... and talk about whatever since this is a FreeDay TeaDay.

Eh, a poll, ok ... today will you emphasize more teas or more steeps of fewer teas?

Looking forward to seeing everyone on TeaDay!

Saturdays tend to be more steeps of fewer teas, and this morning starts with a sample of Tai-Xing Jin Xuan, a "milk oolong" from TeafromTaiwan.

Has anyone eaten bird cherry? I finally remembered, why aftertaste from yame fukamushi sencha was so familiar :) Probably that's why i enjoy a lot drinking it, reminds me of really fun childhood :D

Same for me as Saturday is a work day, less time to enjoy more than 1 or 2 teas.

Wow, I haven't posted [altho' I have been lurking behind the Mod!] in quite a while and it is good to be back. The main computer at work has been goofy for sooo long, it's nice to have it up and working.

Another hot, humid day, that started with a nice thunderstorm. However it does look like more rain is heading our way perhaps throughout the day and into the evening.

Started the day with sencha with Chip, moved on to a mediocre 2nd flush Darjeeling at work.

Have a weekend of TeaEnjoyment. 8)

Hey Xell, is that Mrs. Chip sitting on your shoulder  :?:

I will probably go for more steeps and more teas today. Jing's traditional shui xian for breakfast. Will brew Hibiki-an's farmers shincha in a few minutes.

I just got home from a few days away to find orders of sencha from Yuuki-Cha and O-Cha so I'm going to want to drink a bunch of different Japanese teas today. The hard part will be trying not to rip them all open at once. But perhaps I can save that for next weekend, if my new teawares from Petr have arrived....

But today still working on the Zairai Honyama sencha from Norbu. I still have several pots' worth of this sencha before I should open another, and today's brew, starting at 150 degrees and upping by 10 every infusion, has been exceptionally nice.

Today I went with more teas, although I still did a lot of steeps... hrm!

I finished up a few infusions of one pu'erh, moved onto another pu'erh, and then finished the night up with Chinese Pottery's homemade hong cha. We'll see if it keeps me up tonight... :D But a storm's right on the verge of rolling in, so I'm hoping that'll help me zonk out.

I tend to get a bit bored if I am resteeping the same tea for hours on end ... plus I crave variety. So I said more teas! Even after around 5 steeps, I set a tea aside and return to it in the evening.

Today 3 teas, began with YM LE with the Mrs. Followed up with a sencha home blend and finishing up with Long Jing from a member.

Great TD ... finishing up with SLT.

Today I'm doing multiple steeps because honestly, I just don't feel like cleaning out all my teaware repeatedly. (It's cold and rainy here today, so it's a lazy day.)

A couple steepings of mystery green tea that I got in December, earlier today; currently heating water for another steeping of the same.

I like to steep a tea until it is no longer interesting to me.

For most oolongs, that's usually 6-10 steepings depending on quality, sometimes over a period of days. I usually steep 4 times and set it aside for later.

For senchas, it's usually 3 steeps, but sometimes with a really good tea I'll go as much as 5 (like the YM), so I generally don't start those until I'm sure I can get the most out of them for my money. Most of the time I won't start a tea like that unless I have the day off and can stretch the steeps out a little so I don't feel like I'm just forcing myself to drink a bunch of tea before work.

Of course, with the hot weather later steeps can be used for iced tea in a pinch.

I'm with Chip though, I never start the same tea twice in a day.

Started the day today with a safe dose of the maojian green. About to head home and finish of this DC come hell or high water. Hopefully the leaves are still good... that will be an adventure in itself. More organic 2010 kabusecha on the 'morrow before another fun-filled day of work :( . Monday I have off so I can start my day with Yutaka Midori :).

Let's continue this topic into Sunday!

So, please continue to discuss the topic and share what's in our cups throughout the day.

And of course feel free to discuss whatever, this is our TeaRoom!

G'day!

For those who enjoy English Cozy Mysteries, I've found a couple of interesting ones that are a bit different - The Royal Tunbridge Wells Tea Museum Mysteries; Dead as a Scone and The Final Crumpet. Lots of fun tea discussion, historical and hysterical! The usual cast of eccentric British characters, and the one American who is learning all about England. And an interesting menagerie of animals.

Actually, a fun TeaRead to sip Tea while perusing the pages. :D

Went with fewer teas Sunday, only 2. But did not up the steeps.

Began the day with YM LE with the Mrs. followed by Some leftover sencha-s blended. And currently sipping SLT in a ShyRabbit cup.
