I came across a premium tencha, which Hibiki-an is selling. Anyone have any experience drinking tencha? if so, what were your thoughts?

Re: Tencha Anyone?
I have not had this exact selection ... however ...
My thoughts go back to brewing tencha, a little like trying to soak styrofoam peanuts used for packing. The leaves tend to float (even above the water) and as a result are a bit messy to brew.
The brew was much like gyokuro (tencha is shaded as well) which is much easier to brew as the leaves are rolled and will sink faster versus the flakes of tencha which I had to force under the water like I was trying to drown the leaves.
I found more enjoyment with gyokuro, but the brew was tasty. BUT I would not want to dissuade someone from trying for the experience.
Of course if someone wants to make their own matcha, this is the stuff to use.

Re: Tencha Anyone?
I just noticed a discrepency in how much you get. It says 30 grams in the banner and 40 to the right side. If you do order it, you should ask for clarification.

Nope, but those hand operated all stone grinders I have seen on Japanese sites are pretty cool.sherubtse wrote:Many thanks for the feedback, Chip!

However, I have left the grinding to the experts.
