Greetings TeaFriends, welcome to another TeaDay. Please drop in throughout the day and share what is in your cup!

Yesterday we discussed "focus teas." Please continue to discuss yesterday's topic.

Today will be Freeday TeaDay. Please discuss whatever you want, after all this is our TeaRoom.

We are looking forward to sharing this Freeday TeaDay with ... everyone. Bottoms up.

I am really trying to work on the staining in my celadon teabowl, so I am brewing Chinese Hong Cha grandpa style in it. Its inside is nicely stained now but I am wondering how the outside is going to stain, as I do not know if the clay is as porous as Hagi and some other Japanese wares.

I have heard of people soaking their entire cup in tea to get stains on the outside. I am debating that as a possible option, but likely only as a last resort (i.e drink for the next several months and the outside shows little to no progress).

Cheating! Where's the challenge in that?

I know its cheating but looking a this clay, I have a hard time believing that tea is going to be able to go through the clay body and work its way out the outside. The outside cracks have very light stains right now, but that I think is because when ever I am drinking from it, if a drip runs down the outside, I rub it into the side of the cup.

The Dalai Lama was asked what surprised him most, he said “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived”

I am enjoying my tea at this moment, and my health which result by the tea.

A quiet teaDay today--only one batch of tea so far, but it was an excellent brewing of Yi Wu puerh--the mellow 2008 bamboo-aged version from Norbu, not the gloriously wild 1997 of auhckw's KLP-2 offering.

I have had a great past few days as far as tea. I'm visiting my father, so I'm near a Japanese grocery and Chinatown... Which means: TEA!!! I've gotten sakura sencha; ryokucha; matcha; restocked both my chrysanthemum pu-erh and my hibiscus tisanes; and...I think that's it, though I might be forgetting something. (And although I was a little disappointed to find that all the unscented pu-erh in the stores I visited was sold out, I guess I'm happy that it's super-popular! )

Pu-erh to start the TeaDay; a lot of iced green tea because it's quite warm here in NYC; and right now I'm sipping on some sakura sencha. Mmm!

The teaDay just got a giant lift: I'm enjoying the first infusion of tea in my new Seong-il pot and cup from TeadOff. It is a fantastic looking little pot, and I am baptizing it with the fantastic fruity oolong from Hilo Coffee Mill, oh my oh my. Add in a lovely cup, wonderfully size, sparkling and comfortable in my hand, and....ahhhhh.

Great TD has come and gone. Miyabi to start the TD with the Mrs. Next up Fujitsubo gyokuro from O-Cha brewed up in a Choun kiln gyokuro set. Finished the TD with a perhaps rather pedestrian effort at sakura sencha, oh well.

Currently SLT iced. Refresshing.

Waiting for Irene to arrive ...
