auhckw: KLP 5 – Introducing Dayi Puerh Tea

by auhckw » Aug 27th, '11, 11:18

As some of you are aware, here in Malaysia we have access to a wide variety of tea and teawares. It is fun to enjoy this ‘luxury’. So I decided to extend my experience and purchase options with TeaChatters via this KLP (Kuala Lumpur Project).

When I come across an interesting tea, I will post the info up. The tea that I select in the KLP will be of something good at least to the tea drinkers (customers) in the shop and also my seniors. So, if you are interested to buy, let me know. I will do it in a bulk order so that I can safe my traveling time and cost to collect it.

Besides the KLP item, if you come across something that I have tasted or purchased and wished to know more. Feel free to PM me and I will try to get the details for you.

I am NOT a Seller and don’t do this for a living. I’m doing this as a hobby to share tea interest and fun. That said, I do not wish to do this at a lost, so I have markup a little to include packaging, paypal charges, bank charges and currency difference.

Dayi (Menghai) Tea factory is the largest Puerh Tea producer today. But how much do you know about it? Some have asked me Where do I start with Dayi? What is the most common recipe for Dayi? How does different recipe from Dayi taste like? Which Dayi has potential?

Since next week is a week off for me, I have decided to do a mega project. I’m going to introduce you to the most common recipe from Dayi within 5 years of age which is still available for sale.

I will be buying the cake by the whole piece and breaking it into 4 portions. The weight quoted is the minimum weight assuming lost from dividing them (but after dividing it equally, the weight can be more). I will be purchasing the Dayi from Malaysia’s official Dayi distributer, so it will be genuine. The tea is Malaysia dried stored. The price quoted is based on current Malaysia’s market/selling price.

Please PM me to reserve the slots. Once I get 4 people, I will PM you to transfer the funds. Price is inclusive of packaging, paypal charges, bank charges and currency difference.

Postage is NOT inclusive in the price. Estimate package for:
Package 01 (Malaysia to USA – 3 weeks – 2.5kg): MYR 135.30 (USD 48.40)
Package 02 (Malaysia to USA – 3 weeks – 1.5kg): MYR 85.30 (USD 30.50)
http://www.pos.com.my/pos/appl/parcel_rate.asp
You will only be required to transfer the postage after I package them up.

I am NOT a Seller and don’t do this for a living. I’m doing this as a hobby to share tea interest and fun.
I respect your offer and the effort it takes, but at the price you get the tea in KLP you definitly make a BIG benefit with your first offer!... so i'm a bit surprised you want to appear as a non-seller that does it for fun!

The price for the above is from the Dayi official reseller here. There is not big profits in it. It is big profit, if were to buy it when it is brand new, but it is not when you are buying it now at later stage and at loose price not bulk.

I am not a seller cause I won't commit myself to do this long term and don't do this for a living, but if you guys don't like it, I can stop. I have nothing to loose. You would not imagine the effort needed for such KLP projects. This KLP 5 is really a huge project. Imagine the work to break them up and package them. I have to go around tasting and seeking advice. Not and easy task. I do it for fun, learning and at the same time not doing it at a lost.

I did a comparison between DTH vs local Dayi shop, and for 17 out of 20 items... difference in total is MYR 75.64 (USD 27). DTH is a seller and I am not. I go to tea shop and buy what is the current market price, so it may be higher :(

Anyway, no worries about highlighting your point

PS: The killer expensive Pu in Package 01 is the Yiwu. That piece itself is MYR 188 (USD 67.20) - loose price. Initially I thought not including it, but since I have included other mountains thought of putting it in so that people can try the different taste of Dayi selected mountain.

Thanks so much for all your efforts. It is very much appreciated.

Seeing you spent so much effort to calculate and generate this list, it's hard for me to believe if you're not related to any of online shop whose business might have been affected by KLP  .

Now the question is: what would be the price of 80g samplers of these at DTH or any other shops?
We shouldn't expect retail price to be the same as bulk price.

Off the KLP, I've contacted Chua for a cake or two. Judging the price of the tea, he did't even earn anything. Again, I'm grateful for his generousity.

Hehe... I didn't expect him to spend so much time calculating and generate the list either

I suspect I would offend some sellers in such KLP activities which is why I didn't create a KLP to offer preorder new tea price given by tea shop here. If I do so, online tea shops would find it harder to sell their new release branded tea cause the difference is quite big.

KLP 5 tea price is about market price here today and in 1 piece price. The price difference is not really big compared to DTH, if comparing the whole piece price and not in the broken up price. Online sellers should not worry cause I am not selling dirt cheap price, which I could if I want. It won't be hard for me to get the Pu above with private collectors at much below market price or me letting go some from my own collection which I don't intend to.

The weight quoted is under weight cause I wouldn't know exactly and guarantee the weight after dividing it equally. So after dividing them, it should be more than the weight quoted. Eg. 357g / 4 = 89g. I have put guaranteed 80g, but it should be more.

It took me 1/2 a day to come up with this KLP5 idea, compiling the list, getting the latest price from the vendor, calculating/validating the price, etc. The effort put in to go tea shop to get the price, going again to buy (could be multiple times), packing them, buying the box and packing, filling up the forms, going to POS, time spent on organizing it... if I can be rich from doing this I would have quit my full time job  I am doing this for fun and enjoying it

If not because next whole is a off week for me, I would not have want to do this mega KLP5 cause it sure is a lot work. This would probably be a one time off KLP5.

I cannot commit on such full time activities yet. I can only do it at small scale now within TeaChatter. Serving the KLP is enough to burn a day in the weekend

Just off the record, because I am doing KLP I can now legally bring tea into the house (whether is others or for me). Last time I have to sneak in tea at night when wife is sleeping :?
