Myrtle leaf

by zoomzilla » Dec 7th, '10, 20:31

I recently received a box of some gimmicky native american herbal teas. One of them is actually pretty good and I can harvest all but one ingredient wild from around my home. The only one I don't know is myrtle leaf. When I look it up online there are about 10 different kinds that grow all over the world. This one is from South Dakota so I'm assuming I can find it in my area too(Indiana). Does anyone know what the common name for it in the midwest is? Thanks for the help.

The name "myrtle" can refer to so many different plants. The most commonly used in herbal teas, lemon myrtle, is native to Queensland, Australia, and does not grow anywhere in North America.

Do you have any more information...what the leaf looked like...and what the aroma is like, that could help narrow it down?

Most plants named "myrtle" are not native to North America so that eliminates nearly all the options I can think of off the top of my head.
