My Love Of Yunnan Gold

by jashnew » Oct 15th, '07, 22:52

Is anybody love Yunnan Gold like I do? I drink at least 4 6 ounce cups of Yunnan Gold a day. I feel like it's like a complex wine with all of its subtle notes. Peppery, sweet, buttery, musty, and earthy. I try different grades from around the net.

I too share your love. Dian hong is about the only type of black tea I'll drink anymore, and I have it about once a day.

I love it too.

I also love Republic of Teas' Royal Yunnan as well. I think its a slightly lower grade, but it has a much more distinct "peppery" bite to it. Have any of you aficionados found a Yunnan similar to RoT's?

I just now tried my first Yunnan after trying to get the most out of different Assams. As far as I'm concerned, it's as close to perfect as one can get, but I'm new to this so don't take my word too seriously.

What I notice is that while I've been searching to find the "classic" black tea taste I expected from my Assams, the Yunnan delivered the goods instantly.

I'll keep trying the Assams until I understand better how all this works, but this Royal Yunnan Gold really impressed me with its colour, body, and flavour.

I agree Theo, Yunnan makes some very good black tea.

I've got some Yunnan Gold coming in from Adagio right now.
I've also got my first Darjeeling on the way. We'll see how it compares to the Yunnan.

Can't wait...

The adagio yunnan gold looks good- Haven't come across a truly "gold" colored yunnan in a bit

Oh, there's one from Yunnan Sourcing that is pure gold. Seriously. I can't find another color in the whole thing. It's lovely.

Ah, I am starting to sound like a broken record, but I bought a couple ounces of Ito En's Yunnan Gold last weekend (in-store only), and wow, it was like a mouth orgasm... so to speak... SUPER tippy and totally gold dry leaf, yielding an intensely malty yet complex and multi-tonal liquor. I had 2 cups this afternoon, perfect yunnan-

Looks much like that yunnan sourcing picture, totally gold tips, and very fluffy

I just had some of this yunnan gold from Teance:

http://store.teance.com/rt00601.html

It was very poor. The leaves are small, smaler than I've seen and smaller than what they have pictured. It was not as aromatic, and the brew was bland, not as rich as other pure bud dian hong I've tried.

And look at that price.

That sucks space. I'm looking for a good cheap one, too bad Adagio's this season isn't as buddy as last seasons.

Another thanks for the link! I ordered some of their gold, it does look amazing. Now I'm probably going to be scouring the web for other sources of yunnan gold. It's addictive stuff.
