Mon/Tues TeaDay 10/10-11/11 TEAchings?

by Chip » Oct 10th, '11, 00:33

Welcome TeaFriends from around the world. Welcome to TeaDay. Please drop in and share what is in your cup throughout the day. Of course also discuss the topic of the day.

Yesterday we discussed whether we had enough ... tea. Please continue to discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. I was thinking of this topic, then there was a new member whose name sealed the deal. TEAcher, have you considered teaching about tea on some level, any level. Please share.

We are looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with ... everyone. Bottoms up.

I have not thought about teaching as much as I have wished I had someone to teach me. It's cool that I get to figure out what I like and experiment but it would be nice sometimes to have someone else to give me feedback and share their experiences with me. Maybe one day I will have that. :D

Voted "yes". I do some of that as a part of being a professor at a college. I tend to cover history of Japanese tea wares, some basic Chanoyu stuff, and the making of Chadogu.

best,

Definitely, i explained many things to my brother and some other friends and now they drinking more tea! Though looks like my brother prefers puerh more than my favorite japanese teas expect matcha :)

Recently had not much luck, few not very good things happened. First of all, already more than week my netbook is in service. But with this i was still really lucky, i could loose all my data and would have to start updating my page from beginning. Previously i had external hdd to backup data from my desktop pc. But when moved to Japan i used mostly netbook and got careless. A reminder to everyone, always backup your important data!

And my first teaware loss too, Tokoname kyusu died.

At least today was a nice tea day. 4 bowls of matcha, opened new bag of houjicha with nice and rich roasted aroma. This smell is amazing, if i had to pick best smelling tea, it will be definitely houjicha! :D Btw, maybe a topic for next teaday? Choose tea by smell :)

I've had suggestions from a few teaBuddies that I should do some kind of tea tasting/class. I'm sharing tea at work with about a dozen different people (not all every day!), and it would be neat to be able to share more than just 'would you like a cup of what I made today?', but I'm not sure how to fit that into my schedule--when, where, who, how?

Meanwhile, I spend a lot of time being helpy here on teaChat.

Today, starting the teaDay with Honyama sencha from Yuuki-cha. And the note above reminded me to take a good sniff of the tea in the preheated kyusu, mmmm!

I voted maybe because I teach some of my friends about tea but only in a very informal sense when it comes up in conversation. I don't think I would ever teach a formal class but that could change in time.

Where would I find students? My friends are grateful to Teachat for keeping tea out of the conversation. My family doesn't appreciate anything but Jasmine. The resident coffee drinker does enjoy Puerh and will finish off anything that's too bitter for me!

A late start to the tea day with a session of Uji Sencha Karigane from O-Cha. Now a break while I decide on my second tea of the day.

This describes the exact situation I am in.
My teaday started with a random urge to make some YM between classes... it was some much needed relaxation time 8)

I have always found that preparing to teach a subject can be a great learning experience for the teacher ... diving in head first and fine tuning, formalizing, filling in gaps in the information learned over the years through experience ... a great challenge!

For these reasons, as well as the actual desire to (semi) formally teach (share) about one of my fave topics, has had me considering possible/potential opportunities to do just that.

Oh ...

Great TD (for the most part) began with a tasting of Kabuse from O-Cha with the Mrs.

Followed with a weak genmaicha with matcha teabag picked up from Aiya at the WTE-E ... looking at the bag before plunging it into water, I had to wonder if it even had 2 grams in it. Not what I am used to. I conclude, I would be much better off filling my own bag ... but I guess I knew that already.

Followed up with Takumi from Zencha ... much "greater."

Having tea with nice folk is what I enjoy most.

Teaching sounds very heavy. Isn't it more about an exchange to those who know less and from those who know more?

So much to experience in tea. That is a bit of the fun.

I love teaching my friends and family the differences between tea types and growing regions and ways different cultures enjoy tea, all of which I find so fascinating! But it is always like preaching to the deaf haha. If there were some sort of gathering for like minded in my area I would find it so neat.

am currently drinkign white tip oolong and this morning I had hasmine petal green tea.

I like teaching friends and family about tea when we drink tea together, but I have no plans of doing it in a more structured and formal way.
