Single Ingredient Teas

by JamAndBread » Nov 18th, '11, 23:18

I just had a cup of Celestial Seasonings Peppermint tea. The only ingredient is peppermint and it is so delicious!

I was just curious if there are any more single ingredient herbal teas that are favorites of members here.
:)

I don't drink very much herbal tea anymore, but I have always enjoyed chamomile tea. I think you can make a tea from almost any type of herb. I think I'd like to try some catmint tea, just to see my cats' reactions to it :)

There are things like Labrador Tea (delicious!), Wild Suk (Artemisia), Chrysanthemum, Wild Rosehip, Wild Mossberry (or crowberry), Cranberry, Cloudberry, Juniper etc. All single ingredient herbals...and that's naming only a smattering of them.

You can find some of these at Acquired Taste Tea Company in Edmonton, AB (under the brand Northern Delights Inuit Tea) and Dao Tea in Richmond, BC. Or your local forest.

Catnip with a leaf of Stevia would be yummy, I think!

I really like brewing fresh ginger tea. Sometimes I even brew it and then keep it chilled when I need something to sooth my stomach.

Gamro Cha, aka Hydrangea tea from Korea (available from Hankook) is easily the most mind blowing single ingredient tea other than TEA I have ever had. Only 2-3 leaves will create a remarkably sweet, clean tisane.

It ia not cheap, but a little goes a long way.

Which reminds me, it has been too long since I have had any on hand.

I rarely brew single-ingredient herbal teas, but the gamro tea mentioned by chip, peppermint, chamomile, and tulsi (holy basil) would be some that I do indulge in solo at times.
